Re: Can I punch with an X7 Destroyer?

How did the trip go? We redirected to another location... water is too muddy in the Delta  Did you end up using the X7??? I don't want you to spoil the suspense of the review but, if you could provide one with enough details to see if that person should consider this rod for some "light" punch...

Re: Can I punch with an X7 Destroyer?

Hey whatd'ya know.. Packing for a testing trip this weekend and I found mine :) So I'd absolutely use this stick for punching, but not in the stereotypical scenario where you have a lot of matted down vegetation or a thicket of pennywort, but rather in situations where the millfoil or hydrylla are ...

What makes braid "screech"?

It might only be me but, I love the sound of braided line scheeching under heavy load.

Is it the guides, the line or something else.

Are more moderate rods more prone to screeching?

Here is a link to what I'm talking about:

Re: Pitching Reel?

I've pitched plenty with my SV reels. It doesn't hinder the performance anything noticable.

The Tatula SV TW is coming out really soon. It has the 8.1 in left and right and it is 199.

Re: Chatterbait trailer selection

I mainly either use a fluke or a paddletail. The fluke is a little more subtle for cold and or clear water. The paddletail is more obnoxious so I use those in dirty water or when I know the fish are chasing.

Re: Pitching Reel?

Anything fast. I use the Daiwa Zillion TWS 9.1 for punching and the SV version for jigs. I also have the 8.1 Steez SV TW for T rigs. The fast reels allow you to burn your lure through the "dead" water and get another pitch faster. It's a small difference but it definitely adds up through the day, al...

Re: Chronarch MGL vs Zillion SV TW

I'm in the market for a new flipping reel, as well as, a new reel for my jerkbait rod. I will probably end up with both reels this week \:D/ I just don't wanna get the right reels in the wrong ratios.. My question is, should I get the Chronarch MGL for flipping due to its 8.1:1 ratio option, or sho...

Re: SS SV Question

The fireline did it, I tried the same thing because I bought some 20lb and 14lb fireline from Walmart on sale. It is a line designed more for spinning reels and it caused me multiple issues in specific casting reel situations. I mainly use (like 90%) fluorocarbon for skipping light lures with my SV...

Re: Archangel

I was not blown away by the archangels. Owned the 8''0H and 6'11m. Both are nice rods but for the price tag, I'll go a different route. Comparing them two a few other MB models, I'll have to put the archangels right with the P3 models. Even though the P3 has more of a crisp feeling to it than the a...

Re: Flippin'/ pitchin'; same thing, right?

i remember 20 years ago the 6'10" rod was all the rage as the "perfect pitchin rod". how times have changed Could you imagine using an 8ft old school glass rod? I have a 7'6" Ocean City Flippin Stick that is from the early 90's (guessing). I am going to give it a whirl this year and see what it is ...

Re: Daiwa SV103 vs Zillion SV TW

Why would you go with the slower gearing, more power? I am intrigued with the 9.1 as most of my other reels are in the 6.X range and I want to see what a really fast reel is like. I also kinda like the green :D I would do the 9.1. I really like the extra speed. The 4-6 IPT increase doesn't seem lik...

Re: Steez XT Flipping Rod

In regards to punching/heavy flipping: IMO If you are looking for something similar to the 8' H compile x, the comparable Steex xt is not the answer. It's not nearly as parabolic, and a lot more tip heavy. Makes sense since they went cheaper on the components but i was a little disappointed in the ...

quote="ccass"]Has anyone used this rod?

How stiff is it? Is it a meat stick or does it have some flex to it?

Have you used it for punching? The rating look like it may perform similar to the Complie X flipping rod.[/quote]
