Re: I think price should be left out of TT review score

You can have yearly 'best value' awards for products that perform well at a resonable price (like 'car & driver' or 'consumer reports' does), but I feel reviews should only factor in build quality and performance. I'm sure some people don't even read the full review (like my bro) and would say 'the...

Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!

This is absolutely not accurate, I’m just doing brain exercise. In here I’m casting ~23 m. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHVpq00gu8U&t=46s Cast time ~2,5 s. That’s 9,2 m/s. 30 mm spool perimeter is 0,09428 m. That makes 97,6 rps, which is 5857 rpm. But actually cast starts from ~4,2 m higher than...

Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!

I roughed out some back of the napkins calcs and for a 50yd cast it would spin a spool (30mm diam) about 2100 revs. So if a cast took 3 sec, the that would be 700 rev/sec or about 42K rpm. I think your results might be wrong by a Pi factor: Perimeter = Pi * Diameter The average spool speed during t...

You can get a Bonderite pen and coat the exposed aluminum.
Thank you Tokugawa,
I'll definitely take a look at that.

Re: MB Zonda Hedgehog BFS spool corrosion

Thanks for the replies.

For the time being I have clean it and oiled with a bit of lithium oil hopping to stop the corrosion.
Guess the saltwater adventure has ended for this spool.

MB Zonda Hedgehog BFS spool corrosion

I have the above mentioned reel and I have been saltwater fishing with it. Recently I notice some corrosion (pitting) in the spool rim.
Is the spool body aluminum or magnesium?

Any solution to stop the corrosion spread?

Thanks

These also seem quite similar to the fact and armadas.
Another designo build possibly?
Very possible

Re: Alphas sv tw with some line capacity

Don’t remember exactly where I saw it but the spool is 33mm just like the old Alphas.

Re: Designo leben and vantage

This is a fantastic write up. Thank you. Unfortunately, the little monkey telling me to get the Armada or perhaps FACT has now turned into a gorilla. Another thought to your previous observation, Perhaps EG might discontinue making the FACT line now with the Armada launched? It’s really difficult t...

Pockets milled out https://i.postimg.cc/BQBxsBrZ/E4597350-FD4-E-416-A-B4-E6-37-DD08-C67-A06.jpg It would be amazing to have a kit for popular reels like the old STEEZ 100SH/Zillion, ALPHAS as well as the new STEEZ SV TW. I believe that the current design with slight changes would work perfectly. Th...

Re: Designo leben and vantage

Does anyone know where these Armada rods with fit in? I’m not sure if it’s by Designo or another maker using Designo blanks? I think Aquaftm mentioned Randoule (sp?) as the new top of the line by Designo. So would these be considered more entry level? Still not cheap by any means. Can’t find much o...

Re: Daiwa Alphas Air TW 2020

Now that we are at it, how about removing the spacers around the spool and fit a more usable spool for normal bass fishing. Sometimes in the range of the 33mm diameter?
Has someone tried it?

Re: Designo leben and vantage

so weird. seems like only one rod in that pic using acs reel seat. y not just keep them uniform? Also the EG HFAC-511MHST has the ACS real seat. Difficult to copy so much.... without looking like a copy. https://www.evergreen-fishing.com/goods_list/Hfac511mhst.html I wonder what is EG position on t...

Yep...the Steez's main gear is machined for drag. No plastic pieces.
I don’t think that picture is of a Steez. Most probably is from a Z2020.

The latest iterations of the clicking drags have plastic races.
