Re: Curado noise on retrieve
Change the 2 bearings that support the pinion. 99% the cause of your noise, and a very common issue I find on Shimano reels. Something about them 2 particular bearings, especially when the reel is used hard.

Re: Do you keep back up reel
When I find a reel that I really like, I will purchase another to keep on hand. One, they are good for having an extra spool. Two, they are good for having extra parts just in case.

09Aldebaran. Love that reel. Especially with the Avail honeycomb spool. I love using it for tiny baits and catching Cichlids with light line and a noodle pole.

Re: 17 Scorpion DC Gears
That's what I figured but I searched and haven't heard of anyone swapping 8.2 XG gears into their CU 200i. My original plan was to make this my topwater reel with 8.2 gears. I think going with the 7.2 gears will make it more versatile (cheaper too!) for lipless and shallow cranking as well as topwa...

CI/CU200/201 and the CU70/71 use all the same gears.

Re: Gear Question
I have the 7.7 gears in my CU50E Do you feel any issues with torque? No. But then again I dont use heavy baits with my 50E, as that wasnt its designed purposes. But, I have no issues with 1/4oz weight and a plastic bait swimming/buzzing. I use more of a UV Speed worm type bait with it, or even ligh...

Re: Light braid
I buy all my braid straight from the source. Dyneema Spectra braid I can get 1000m for $20 shipped to me. I do have to wait about 3 weeks, but well worth the price. Im stocked up, so I will be good for a long time. Have been using it for a long time, and holds up well in heavy cover.

Re: Bone Stock Reels
Own lots of reels that are stock. Money is why. If I changed out parts, I would definitely keep the originals. Why? Frugal is one good reason. Pinnacle Primmus were advertised as hand tuned. Probably means they were individually checked for proper lubing. Great performance out of the box. Have a st...

Re: Quantum Icon PT
So I got the Icon PT in the mail yesterday. Took it home and pulled the sideplate off to check out the internals. Brass gears, dual supported pinion gear, brass crankshaft, dual bearing supported crankshaft, and smooth as hell. Im actually pretty impressed with this reel, especially for what I paid ...

Re: Bone Stock Reels
I have reels that I have kept stock for testing/comparison purposes. I may do some cosmetic changes on them, but nothing to enhance casting/retrieving performance. Right now I am doing a comparison of the Shimano SLX XT, Lews Tournament MB, and I have a Quantum Icon PT on the way. Most of my reel th...
