cjtoad wrote:Any and all, I actually like the MS MJ herring better, but the America shad has worked great for me to. Really like them on super sunny days where I can get lots flash out of them. Slender pointer 112 in MS MJ herrings is a great bait for smallies up here in New England.

Re: opinions on nrx blue 802

I use the nrx 802c jwr for smallies on lake erie with light jigs up to 1/2 oz & it works fine for open water. For largemouth in cover I use the 804 c. The 802c will handle big smallies just fine.

Re: Jerkbait Rod

I like using a medium heavy moderate for larger baits like lc 128's My prefered stick is a st croix xc 72 mhm legend extreme. For the lighter baits like 110's or lc pointer 100's I like a medium moderate in a st croix xc 72 mm legend.

Best smallie & largemouth from this year. Lifetime best pike, lake trout & channel cat caught on a jerkbait while fishing for smallies in 30 feet of water on lake erie. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/uploads/gallery/album_78/gallery_12184_78_23886.jpg http://www.bassresource.com/bas...

Re: Matzuo Lures?

Like Call me Rifle said the matzuo deep divers called prism shads & zander shads kill the waleyes & smallies. They dive to 12-20 feet depending on line dia & line out. They are relatively durable & very inexpensive at $4.79 when I bought them. Discontinued now in the 5/8 oz size.

Smallie porn

Got out on Erie with a buddy for two days this week. We got about 70 in total with 13 over five lbs including a 5-14oz & a 5-15oz and two over six at 6-5oz & 6-6oz. All on jerk baits. Lots of 2-3 lb fish showing up which bodes well for the future. Water temps were 43-45 degrees. http://www.bassresou...

Re: First smallie trip of 2012

 Wow! Dropshot? LC pointer deep diver 100 series. Awesome! Were you deadsticking the bait once it reached the desired depth? Both dead sticking & moving. On erie with any wind your usually drifting from .5 to 1.5 unless your fishing a spot on a spot or using a drift bag to slow down.

First smallie trip of 2012

Got out on Erie yesterday for the first time. Had about a dozen smallies with two big fours, two over five & this big girl at the end of the day. She went 22.5" by 17" girth & weighed 6lb-15oz. My best five weighed 26.44. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/uploads/gallery/album_78/galle...
