Re: Calcutta 50
I think that the Conquest is actually more like the TE. I have an older Calcutta 51. (It seems the only upgrade in the B series is the septon knobs.) It doesn't have wiffle spool. I paired it with a St. Croix Premier PC60MLF2 and like it a lot for light live-bait fishing. I thought it would be able ...

Re: TDZ 105HL Confusion
I think it almost works that way anyway, Raul. If it's an Autoclutch, my guess is that you can push it back to engage the spool. And the position (on-top) is very convenient for flipping, too, which is most probably what this reel is designed to do.

Re: Metanium Mg7 and light lures
Looking at its line capacity of 12lb-120yd and comparing it to the Chronarch Mg's 12lb-85yd, I don't think it can really cast light lures well.

Re: Gr8est Tip of the Decade
I've been using this feature since Mhood mentioned it here especially when I'm pitching with my TD Sol. The pinion gear notch indeed may not always contact the spool pin. This is inherent in the design (see this discussion ) of Daiwa baitcasters and possibly other brands, too. It happens when there ...

Re: ah knots, Help me please
Were your knots still intact after you reeled in your line? Unlike mono and FC, braid will flatten and can indeed slip through the very narrow gap in the hook eye when a fish shakes its head to try to get the lure or hook off. I've experienced that numerous times before I realized what was happening.

Re: centrifugal vs magnetic
Any of these braking systems can help you avoid backlashes. Part of the process of learning to cast baitcasters is to find the optimum settings of the brakes no matter what type it is.

Re: TDZ 105HL Confusion
TD-Z105HL is "hi-speed", it has the same LPT (IPT) as TD-Z105H. It hasn't "flipping switch". It is spool release bar. 2 addition BBs for 2 additional idles of levelwind. ...It discussed here many times. OK, Now I'm confused again.. Vlad is saying that the 105HL doesn't have a true flipping mechanis...

Re: Saltwater surf setup good for pier fishing for Salmon?
Thanks for the Little Cleo tip, Snidley. I did notice that spinning and I thought that it is its natural action. My other spoons like the Krocodile and Kastmaster don't spin but rather wobble side-to-side even with fast retrieves. Last night, I used a 2/5oz Little Cleo because it's the only glow spo...

Re: Drilling spools....
I seem to remember somebody here having casting problems with his Daiwa after adding some holes in his spool. That's because he missed to clean up some of the the burrs from the drilling and they interfered with the spool mechanism that pushes the rotor into the magnets (in the sideplate.) I guess t...

Re: TDZ 105HL Confusion
BF, here's some info about the TD-Z. It's the forsaken Canadian Daiwa website. I guess it's kinda good that it's never been updated. It's where we can still go to checkout the specs of discontinued reels  http://www.daiwa.ca/tackle/reels/baitcast/tdz/index.html If you notice, the TD-Z103HL & TD...

Re: Gr8est Tip of the Decade
I seem to have read about it in a Daiwa catalogue before. I should have kept my old catalogues. I throw the old one out as soon as I get a new one. I don't know if it is what they refer to as the "autocast clutch". If you look at the design of the clutch mechanism in the Daiwas, it looks like it is ...

Re: Saltwater surf setup good for pier fishing for Salmon?
shtuka, that Predator looks interesting. I googled it and the description says "can be used with both fixed spool reels and multipliers". I take it that means it can be used for either spinning or baitcasting reels? (Sending you a PM about that rod.)

Re: Saltwater surf setup good for pier fishing for Salmon?
The 8'6", being the longest rod I own so far, appeared at first to be really long but as I used it more and more I am wanting something longer. I've heard of the Fortune spoons. I think I'm gonna take a look at them. (I lost a 3/4 Kastmaster to a snag :( ) I also thought about going down to 20lb bra...
