I did try 1/2 texas rig on it. It worked fine for me in open water and light cover. Didn't try in thicker cover. In my opinion 1/2 jig is to much for 903. I think for 1/2 and up CNQ 904 or NRX 894 are the beasts.

I own 2 CQ 903's paired with Steez SVTW's + 12 lb Shooter. I'm using them for 1/4 - 3/8 texas rig, jigs, 3/8 chatterbaits, 1/4 swimjigs, weightless swimsenko, senko, 1/2 lipless crankbait. For 1/2 and 3/8 i-894 is the best fo me. 3/8 and lower - 893.

Same thing happened to me few years back. My local reel service man had to replace pinion/main gear set because teeth damages.

I think depends on cover. For open water I'm using mh/fast. If cover is dense or trees h/fast. Both rods with braid.

Wow 9'. It's heavy Carolina Rig. Medium fast. Who knows, maybe good for smaller swimbaits. Nice find.
