So far, I have primarily measured monos, copolymers, and flourocarbons. The only braid I’ve measured is 30# PowerPro Spectra which, incidentally, is only about 2% thicker than its claimed diameter of .011 in.
You are able to go out to 1/10,000 or 1/100,000 of an inch? Just curious?

Re: New vs old greats for cranking.

I still have 3 Calais 100a that I crank with. The only caveat is that they need a longer handle than the short stock handle. Its an amazing tank of 5.8:1 cranking reel.

Re: JDM Stella '07 2000S help

We no longer have parts for the FD models outside of bearings. The JDM models were slightly different than ours due to gear ratio differences. We did not offer the 2000S model in FD. I am not sure how different it is internally. You can send the reel in and our tech will do his best to service the ...

JDM Stella '07 2000S help

I recently picked one of these up and it is super smooth but the handle doesn't spin as freely as my 2 2500FE, which will spin for days. Not a huge deal but wondering if Shimano will service this reel or if there is not enough crossover with the old FD iteration. If Shimano won't, is there anyone ou...

Re: What rod/reel combo has/will withstand the test of time?

Im still using:

G Loomis MBR 843/844 with Calais 200a for sprinnerbaiting

G Loomis CBR 845 with Calais 100a for cranking

G Loomis MBR 782 with Daiwa TD-Z 100M w/6.3 gears for jerk baiting. Not horribly old, but kinda....

Re: Which G Loomis NRX rod - 1/8 ounce (+/-) hair jig | Ned head | micro jig

I have a GLX 822 SYR and love the action for shakeyheads. I think I want an extra fast JWR 2 power for thin wire hair / Ned and micro-jigs The 822 DSR feels like the SYR when you pick it up, but when you hooks a fish, it feels more like a 1.5 power-ish with the super forgiving tip. This may be what...

Re: Sunline Super Natural

Super Natural is softer and a much smaller diameter than Big Game for the same test rating. I don't care for the dark green color of Super Natural. It needs to be lighter. I would fish the clear over the dark green if you are fishing the top half of the water column. Not smaller diameter for test r...

that is my understanding. a little lighter than the 873CRR.
Slightly lighter than the 844...a chunk lighter than the 873...Like what you would think a full power or so would feel like...give or take

I'm a fan of any of the Steez platforms on the NRXs...but also nothing wrong with the Core/Metanium reels either, obviously

Re: Which braid for ds on spin reel?

I like the SX-1, between those 2, as I don't like the "roughness" of the 832 on light gear...Side note..Daiwa Samurai in 15lb. or Seaguar Smackdown in 15 or 20 is really nice...limp and manageable, on a level that the others are not...

Re: Necessity of friction ring in Shimano spinning reels

I also had an issue with my Sustain FE. Reel repair man removed the friction ring and this solved the problem. He also told me that this part is basically unnecessary and the reel functions just as well without it. So why is it there? I was asked the same thing by a buddy yesterday after discussing...

Necessity of friction ring in Shimano spinning reels

One of my crappie reels (Stradic 1000 FH) bound up and I did a complete tear down finding the old black friction ring (PN 7845) dry rotted, etc...Was going to order more but then I was talking to a buddy who owns a tackle store, he said he has removed them and fished the reel without....and they see...

Just make sure you shop by diameter. If you are used to a USDM 12lb test, then the 15-17 lb Defier will be comparable.

Re: NRX- Steez question

The 822 DSR is considerably softer than the 852s JWR. The 822 SYR is in between. If the SYR is a true medium, the 852 is a medium+ and the DSR fishes like a medium light...If you know that Cumulus line, the DSR probably fishes more like the 6'10'ML...For me, and I have all 3, the 822 DSR is basicall...
