Re: tackle budget

With gas at over $3/gallon, a weekend fishing trip costs me about as much as a new rod and reel on ebay. Maybe I should just get a fishing game for my PC and just order a new rig each month :)

Re: Suggestions for new rod

For Pike fishing if I was set on needing spinning gear, I'd go with an Airrus co-matrix hands down. The Airrus is very comfortable to fish and built like a tank and has enough flex that it would take the surge of a big pike.

Re: Suggestions for new rod

Suggest you take a look at an Airrus Co-Matrix in that lenght and weight. I've got a 6.6 Airrus in Medium and love it. I can't speak about a Cabelas rod but have quite a bit of experience with basspro and think the value and quality of Airrus to be much higher. Over the past 3 years, I've replaced 1...

Re: Do You Have Confidence in Braid?

Sounds like the Power Pro Yellow is something I should try. Does the yellow line make it easier to see? Do you mix and match different tests or fish only one test in the braid. For a baitcaster, do you start to get into problems with very small diameter braid? Thanks to everyone who reponded. I plan...

Re: Sol/Fuego vs. Chronarch MG

John- I agree that if you turn the braking to a 0,1, or 2 and set the cast control liberally then the Fuego will pitch very acceptable distance. But turning the braking basically off did cause me a minor number of backlash issues. I find I don't need to turn braking off on some of my other reels to ...

Re: Do You Have Confidence in Braid?

Matt,

How do you tie the leader on when you use one. I tie a back to back uni-knot but had the sound it makes going through the eyes on the rod during the cast. Thanks for your thoughts.

Do You Have Confidence in Braid?

I'm wondering if any of you use braided line for purposes other than flipping into heavy cover and have confidence in it. Over the last month, I tried a little experiment by putting some Stren 30# braid on my Fuego. Just got back from a 3 day fishing trip and the line performed flawlessly. I tried b...

Re: Sol/Fuego vs. Chronarch MG

Spot, I like the Fuego a great deal for throwing fast moving baits and overall it performs well. I don't have any scientific way to prove it, even to myself, but it appears that I like the Fuego more for casting distances vs. pitching. Said another way, I'm very pleased with flat our casting distanc...

Re: Removing Price As A Minus In Enthusiast Reviews

I wish we had more scientific measures (e.g. casting distance, weigth, strength of rod or line) in every aspect of review. My wish would be for these measures to relate back to scores such that the peformance of reel A could be compared to reel B without regard to cost. I'm all for cost information ...

Re: Lines Lines Lines

Pline floroclear in 6,8,12 and 15. Cxx in 20lb Braid (stren and P-line version) in 15lb, 30 and 40. I'm interested in reviews of Pline vs. yozuri and anything on braid. When it comes to strength, I'm interested in strength to diameter ratio as we have no standards on how lines are labled. One guys 6...

Where to you buy a bassart handle and what other than great looks are the advantage? The handle does look great!

Re: My first inport: Metanium XT

CT- So far, the Fuego is better to look at and fits the palm better but in terms of pitching distance and smoothness of the reel the XT would be an easy choice for me to make. I can feel vibrations from a tiny spinner bait through the XT reel that I know I can't feel through the Fuego or Curado CF. ...

My first inport: Metanium XT

A few weeks ago, I got a new Metanium XT from Japan. I wasn't sure what to expect but whatever it was the reel has surpassed my expectations. While not the best looking or most ergonomic reel on the market, the performance of this reel is a BIG step up from my Curado SF or Fuego. It is hard for me t...

Re: spin reel loops & knots

How are you putting the line on? With Braid, how the line is put on does not seem to be a huge issue but I found it can with Mono. Getting a loop in braid on a spinning reel happens to me every once and again. The problem seems to be related a little to the line, a little to natural twisting in any ...

Re: Humminbird Matrix 47 3D Fishfinder

KB- Tough to get information on this type question. We bought a Matrix 17 2D 2 cone unit for the trolling motor this spring. Given we only paid about $160 for the unit on sale, I'm very impressed with its 2D imaging relative to the eagle product we replaced. The housing looks the same as the 47 and ...
