Any of the other shimano handles will fit the Calcutta 50.
I'm not sure why shimano puts such short handles on the Calcutta 50.
I put handles from the larger Calcutta's on my 50's. Gives it more leverage.
I have a basszone cf handle on my conquest 50. Going get another one for my Calcutta 50te.

Re: What if.. new ci4+ series?
I guess I've gone backwards too.
Ive recently bought two Calcutta 50b's, JDM Calcutta 50, a TE50GT and a Conquest 50 to my lineup.
Mainly because they are now discontinued.
Nothing against the CI4 reels. Just waiting to see the reviews and what else may come out.

Re: Anyone have experience with Basszone handles?
I cant remember but I know I had to use the shimano bearings and a few extra washers on each knob to keep them from feeling too loose. The stock bearings that come with the handles are larger than shimano handle bearings. I believe they are the same outer diameter as Abu. But not for certain. They a...

Re: TICA Caiman hunt
To be honest I think a Calcutta would be a better bet.
I have used Tica caimans in the past and the quality is just not there.
They look good, but that's about it.

Re: Top end reels outside the big 2 + 1
I'll say from my own personal experience that Lews makes a great reel too.
You are correct, this forum is very very bias towards the big two. Members on here make it seem like it's almost a sin to mention any other brand.

Why wouldn't the scorpion nut fit the curado? They should have the same size shalf.

Re: Core 51 MG7 - Applications / Handles
The two spools seem to be identical. Only difference is color.
The handle on the Aldebaran MG is shorter. I think it is only 80mm.
The handle on the Aldebaran MG7 is the same as the Core 50.
Handle length doesn't really matter if you are going to change out the handle anyway.

Re: Anyone have experience with Basszone handles?
I have two BAsszone handles that I use on my Shimanos.
One on an Aldebaran Mg and one on a Calcutta TE50GT.
I changed out the stock knobs with the shimano septon knobs and bearings. Extra washers will be needed to keep the knobs from being too loose.
Gives the reels a nice clean look.

That is a sweet looking Calais Combo.
Handle and red matches very nicely without overdoing it.

Re: Core 51 MG7 - Applications / Handles
If you want to throw small cranks, I would go for the Aldebaran MG. Since it has a lower gear ratio its better for crankbaits. I use two for cranks. One for squarebills and the other for smaller cranks. Works great for both applications. Also you can get them cheaper through Rakutan Global than the ...

Re: Which of these Shimano frames to you prefer?
The core 100 frame is pretty comfortable in the hand.
I don't like the way the 200 frame feels. It feels like its up too far on the rod seat.
