Re: I just bought me a new 3.0:1 cranking reel.
How high are those, rod and/or reel? In a few years I will have to search one out for our child to fish with. Still have faith he can figure out a spinning reel... Here is a screenshot of the little shop that I bought it from. I found it in their trout section under reels. The initial price is real...

Re: I just bought me a new 3.01 cranking reel.
If you take a kid fishing, this reel could save you a lot of headaches! Fishing writer Stan Fagerstrom used to do casting exhibitions with spincast reels, showing how one could achieve impressive accuracy and quiet lure entry with them. One aims slightly above the target, feathers the line by pushi...

I just bought me a new 3.0:1 cranking reel.
JK. There's this little shop in Japan that I sometimes buy things from and they had these little Spincast reels. I bought it for no other reason other than it was cheap and I doubt that I'll ever use it. https://i.postimg.cc/Hn44XJ13/9-E3-E3-E99-E99-A-4542-8-E67-E44348-E3-E16-A.jpg [/url] http...

Re: JDM Pistol Grip Topwater Rods
I did get a Smith SuperStrike G0-102 'Topwater Plugging' topwater rod and I bought a near mint Calcutta 100XT to go with it. The reel sits so low in the reel seat that even a 200 would palm great. I've had it for a couple of weeks and I took it out one time and the 6'6" length of mine is too uncomfo...

Re: JDM Pistol Grip Topwater Rods
Brightliver is a popular pistol grip brand in Japan. The site also had wide selection of rods. http://brightliver.shop-pro.jp/?mode=cate&cbid=629619&csid=0&sort=p&page=4 Thank you for the link. I found these for sale on that wonderful auction site in Japan and I'm actually thinking the name is Brig...

Re: JDM Pistol Grip Topwater Rods
I follow a handle/rod maker out of Japan called "slowtaper". Here is some of his work. Slowtaper.JPG Those are very nice. I have had a Smith SuperStrike rod before but I regretfully sold it. What I have never owned much less even knew that these straight handles by Smith were available until recent...

Re: JDM Pistol Grip Topwater Rods
I bought a Smith topwater rod from BassJP. Seeing as though the Classic Ambassadeurs are really expensive and I wanted a round reel, I bought what I am hoping is a damn near mint Calcutta 100XT.

Re: Shimano BFS oil
Keep in mind TSI 321 is a thin film lube, it shouldn't be applied like oil. Mix 1 part TSI to 6 parts alcohol, shake well, dip your bearings, and spin them dry. This essentially makes it function like 301 but without the solvent. The alcohol just functions as a carrier. While it can be applied like...

Re: Shimano BFS oil
Thanks mate, will look into the TSI oil. Good to see there are other Aussie BFS tackle junkies out there! TSI 321 is a lubricant and TSI 320 is a solvent. You want the lubricant. I was using TSI 321 on worm gears and I thought that it was maybe a little bit too thin for that application so I starte...

Re: Is There A Way to Make A Standard Baitcast Spool To A Shallow Spool?
I think it would suck if you started out with for example a Shimano Curado 200E and only put 100ft of line on the spool cause it would look really funny. You could do the same with a 15 Aldebaran and it would look much better and be more BFS'ish.
