Re: UL rod length
I've often wondered why spin fisherman don't use a large foregrip and use the reel to counterbalance the rod even on shorter rods. I've done this with no apparent problem, but may be missing something.

Re: UL rod length
I am quite amazed not one person here mentioned anything about casting accuracy. The shorter the rod, the more accurate your casts. While that may be true at times (very constricted fishing areas) I do not believe it is universally true. It all comes down to experience using the rod length in quest...

Re: Loomis TSR reel seat issue
Dos the tapered cork piece seem loose in any way? If so, it might be relatively easy to dislodge the piece up the blank, coat the appropriate section of rod blank and reel seat, and then put the tapered cork piece back where it belongs (under compression so it remains flush with reel seat). I's stay...

Re: Looking for a New Rod
Happy Easter! I have a couple of rods for your consideration. One is a Shikari-based rod that is true UL, with an estimated line range of 2 to four pound test. It's two piece and has a cork Tennessee handle with aluminum reel rings. Fast action bordering on Medium-Fast. I think of this as a trout, p...

Re: Would you use them for a high end build?
Better to set a few criteria (ceramic vs recoil):
Can take punishment? who cares on a high end build
Lighter?
Are ceramics or recoils more prone to grooving? recoils
Cost?
Seems recoils would have to be considerably lighter and/ or cheaper for me to even consider recoils

Re: Looking for a New Rod
Elixir rods are nice, and are not as pricy as the G Loomis TSR series. Both are somewhat fast. It all comes down to how fast a rod you might want - a rod built on a Lamiglas LSJ781 blank will be considerably faster, but only 6'6" in length. Light power spin jig (SJ) rods are probably the way to go i...

Re: Looking for a New Rod
Fats, I make my own fishing rods and do a lot of experimentation. I definitely have too many rods. Give me a sense of the type of fishing you do and whether you are looking for a moderate/ slow action or fast action, what your average lure weight might be, line poundage, and if you fish near weeds/ ...

Re: Are Custom Rods actually better than Mass Produced ones?
I'll second the Phenix Elixir suggestion. Keep the rod simple - the bling will cost you more and add unneeded weight. And custom is the way to go if you know what you want!

Re: Rod quandry
I'm offering an opinion in the hope that it does not fuel the fire further... I believe hard data on many blanks is available. I do not have the specifics for the blanks you mention or I would provide them to you! Matt's statements on blank manufacturers are based on a history of standardized measur...

Re: Tennessee Handle?
Many rod builders consider the Tennessee handle to be one of the lightest, most sensitive handles available. I'll reply from my perspective - as always, take it with a grain of salt I do not like Tennessee Handles made entirely of cork - the cork is too readily damaged, if tape is used it leaves a g...

Re: Seeking custom spinning rod handle pics
[Complete rod was 1.2oz, and I guarantee that the smooth ergonomically shaped carbon fiber handle is more comfortable than any reel seat on the market. Plus you can vary the diameter to make it exactly the best size for the customer.[/quote] Is your CF handle completely rounded, or do you form a sli...
