Re: Power ratings on new NFC X-Ray blanks?

How does that blank fish? I ended up going with the SJ732 It fishes very nice for an all around spinning rod. I've used it to drop shot 1'-50' deep, although I'd personally go with a lighter powered blank if I needed a dedicated dropshot rod. I've also used it to throw 3" swimbaits up to a 3/8oz ji...

Re: Power ratings on new NFC X-Ray blanks?

I just ordered this mbr 733 xray blank and am curious how your build turned out. What was your weight and grip/guide setup? I am new at rod building and am looking for some ideas on how to best use this blank. This is my first "real" blank other than the cheaper ones I have done for practice. Dave ...

Evergreen Treble Magic

Owner ZO Wire
Thanks for the reply, I'll order some Evergreen trebles. The zo wires are strong, but still not light enough. The stx-58's are actually quite heavy and the stx-45's only goes up to size 1, but are about the same weight as other comparable 2x hooks.

Re: Butt Cap Question

But if I need to split them apart, I'll insert the butt into a spare blank or some kind of mandrel. Then I'll put the mandrel into my power wrapper and while it's spinning at high rpms, use a razor blade to split it. Just be careful as the razor blade will get very hot.

Re: Butt Cap Question

I'll just use a drill bit with the same or slightly bigger size than the butt od. The trick is to not go all the way through. I'll insert a smaller drill bit into the cork butt cap and mark where it ends. Then I'll mark that spot on the bigger drill bit. You can use tape on that spot as a stopper so...

^^ Whoops, didn't realize this was the enthusiast section. ](*,) I don't consider those enthusiasts tackle, although some would consider the Onager to be.

Re: Show off your bigbait setups!!!

Here are two of mine, but these days I'm only using iRods. No bling factor for swimbait rods as I'll break too many trying to flip dd's. Onager with 300TE iRod 804 Bailey Swim (custom handle) with 300E. There's an 8" Hudd in the mouth of that bass btw. https://i.imgur.com/onqTHlG.jpg https://i.imgur...

Re: TDZ for Bottom

I've used mine for bottom contact with 20lb fluoro. No problems at all with the drag (carbontex). It seems I get more fish with 6.3:1 than a faster reel, probably because it forces me to slow down. That said, I use my td-z's for ikas, Senkos, squarebills and spinnerbaits.

Og zillion w/ spacers vs sv103: 34mm spools

Anyone notice a difference between the 2 with the the same 34mm spool? My friend said spools with short inductors may not reach far enough with the spacer. Thoughts?

Re: Alpha Angler blanks

If you’re talking about the NFC X-ray 765 NEO, it's not the same blank as the 765 doesn't have a glass tip. Most likely.. The glass is weaved or layered all over the blank, but I'm not sure of the details. The 765 also have ridges all along the blank, although it wouldn't be too hard to sand all the...

Strongest, lightweight treble hook?

My search for a strong, but lightweight treble continues. Size 1-1/0. These hooks will be used for swimbaits, and I'll need lightweight hooks to adjust the sink/float rate. Just to give you an idea, Owner ST-36 (1x hooks) are way too weak, I've straighten out more than a handful of those. Best alter...

Re: Most sought after Daiwa 34mm spool

Try the ito spool in the td-z. It's my favorite spool for the td-z. Imo, it's not as wild as most people say. I set my brakes on higher (7-9 iirc) My 100m spool in my zillion r and alphas Sv are more wild. Also, for what purpose? I have spools that i like for pitching, some for long distance casting...

Re: Megabass clone

Probably wouldn't be worth it. Most builders I know will charge more for stripping the rod than the components are worth, but you might find someone who will do it for cheap. You can also strip everything yourself. I'm sure there's a few videos on YouTube that you could find. TT member savacs (A SAV...

They are nice. Just gotta wait for one to pop up in the classifieds. Guess I should post a WTB and see what happens.
I might have a spare type R and SV103. Both RH and both 6.3:1, but I have new 7.3:1 gears from the type R that I haven't used. Not sure if I want to let them go though lol.
