Source of fish blinders.
I'm trying to find a source of fish blinders to prevent eye damage from excessive sunlight during unhooking. Do you know of a source?

Re: Whats up with PowerPro!
You may want to read the posts that I linked above. The line never broke at the knot.

Re: Whats up with PowerPro!
I got a big nasty surprise with it too. The consensus seems to be that the stretchiness of mono gives it the shock absorption that you and I obviously value. The following are my two posts on the topic http://www.tackletour.net/T3Forum/viewtopic.php?t=17305&highlight= http://www.tackletour.net/T3For...

Re: Power Pro VS. Sufix Braid
I have them both and consider them to be practically identical. Power Pro, according to my own measurements with samples that I own, is slightly stronger than Sufix in the 30# line. Sufix holds its color a bit better. My future purchases of these good lines will be determined by shopping price.

Re: Palomar to Palomar?
l2yan: I too like the uni-knots. But more broadly, I'd like to recommend the fishing knot tying book by Kreh and Sosin, volume 2. It's got excellent knots in it. In summary, since I only use relatively light lines, I use the easy blood knot, which is super strong, for joining mono to mono. And I use...

How to use classic 4" Rapala minnow?
I've tried these famous lures but have found that they're not very good as-is for trolling and I can't cast them very far even with light spinning tackle. What are they good for and how are they supposed to be used?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Ultralight reels
The Penn 4300 SS has been the only smooth and durable ultralight reel I have ever owned.

Re: How much line?????
For freshwater fishing I fill the reel with dacron, except leaving enough for 100 yards of monofilament. The dacron has much better longevity than using monofilament backing. For saltwater, I fill the reel with the mono I'm going to fish with.

Also consider a surfboard. You can fish almost anywhere, but surfing is relatively rare. It will provide you with many fine memories, as it did me. Now I live in fly-over land and couldn't surf if I wanted to except in the relatively surf-less and frigid Lake Superior.

Do yourself a favor and investigate the saltwater fishing that can be done inexpensively from near shore. You can fish largemouth bass almost anywhere.

Re: Tall and Narrow or Short and Wide
It would be interesting to see what the Europeans are using for their bank fishing rigs. Until recently, and perhaps to the present, they prefer the longer spool for the maximum casting distance that they like. D.A.M. is the big German tackle company and I didn't see anything but long narrow spools ...

Re: Weighting a fish when frozen
Now I'm confused. If length and girth are the variables, you'll only get an approximation. Why not just weigh the frozen fish?
The formula for estimation without a scale is
Weight (lbs.) = length (in.) x girth (in.) x girth (in.) / 740

Re: new to baitcasting reels
In general, if the lure is lighter than about 3/8 ounce, you're better off using spinning tackle.

Re: Weighting a fish when frozen
There isn't one factor. Assuming that you're trying to estimate live weight at the moment the fish was taken out of the water, you will need to consider how long the fish was out of water before being frozen, what conditions it was stored under prior to being frozen, what conditions it was frozen un...

Maxima Ultra-Green 4# test. Excellent line
I tried some Maxima Ultragreen 4# test and it has been excellent. Really good knot strength and good limpness for casting with an ultralight spinning reel. Abrasion resistance seems pretty good too.
