Re: Black Duckett Rod?
Somewhere there is a pic of Byron Velvick using a black rod while he was on the Duckett payroll, a lot of anglers claim he was using rogue rods while other claim it was a loomis, I'm not sure but the handle on the black rod on Scroggins deck looks just like the Duckett rods only black, maybe a speci...

Re: YoZuri live bait minnow jig
The livebait minnow jig is primarily a saltwater lure but can be used in freshwater. You fish these vertically like you would a hopkins spoon.

Re: Favorite technique with 3" senkos/dingers
Like you mentioned I've done very well when fishing it on a light jighead, I usually use a 1/32 oz or 1/16 Gopher Tackle Mushroomhead with a small #6 Gamakatsu hook. This is one of my go to baits on those clear sky no wind summer days, the slow death spiral gets bit and with the jighead I use it's ...

Re: Opinions on Power Team Lures
The food chain tubes are the best tubes I've ever fished, and I use a lot of them river smallmouth fishing, they are worth trying if you are curious and if you used them you'd get more like myself.

Re: plastic swim baits
I really like the Storm wild eye swim shad, these just plain produce and another favorite that is getting hard to find is the Berkley Manic Shad, these come with a head similar to a scounger but more detailed, and 3 or 4 extra bodies depending on the size but they are a smallie killer, especially th...

Re: Lucky Craft Flash Minnow
Is the Flash Minnow mainly a Smallmouth lure for you guys? I have 2 that have seen very little use chasing Largemouths. The lakes I fish aren't very clear so jerkbaits in general don't work very well but when I notice fish feeding in the shallows I'll throw it, the Flash Minnow has caught me a few ...

Re: topwater rod help
I would reccomend the G.Loomis JBR 813C jerkbait rod, I prefer my JBR 753C because I like the shorter rod but the 813C is 6'9" so it may be too short for your own personal preference but its an awesome rod for spooks and sammies. I use a fast action rod for jerkbaits and topwaters because I have a h...

Re: What to get reel in $100 range
I'd say go with the Lews, the Caenan looks good but that graphite frame is a deal breaker for me, the Lews speed spool at 90 bucks with an aluminum frame is the way to go.

How good is the Yo-Zuri Banana Boat?
Does anyone have experience with the banana boat? I usually throw spooks and I have a few Sammys that have been good but I was wondering about the banana boat because my local Cabelas is blowing them out at 2.99 each so I bought a bunch, the bait monkey wouldn't leave me alone because of the price. ...

Re: Lucky Craft Flash Minnow
May well be my favorite skinny water lure period! If you're in 4' or less, it is my first presentation if I'm chasing bronzebacks. They are also pike killers as well, and having 3 trebles on the 110's helps in the landing ratio for smallies. =D> You'd better start getting yours wet after ice-out. :...

Re: painting trebles
Instead of using paint, look for a product called lake hawk lure and blade dip, it is actually a dye and works well, I've used it to make treble and spinnerbait hooks red, it comes in a lot of different colors and is quick and easy to use plus it dries in 10 seconds.

Re: 7.1 for jerkbaits? Are we serious now?
I like a 6.3:1 for suspending and deeper jerkbaits that I use in the late winter/early spring with the cold water I don't need to go fast but I want to be able to pick the slack line up at a decent speed so that gear ration is perfect. On the other hand I like the 7.0:1 in the late spring through su...

Out of that list I thought only Loomis and St. Croix make their own blanks, am I wrong?

Re: Rapala Shad Rap
If I'm not throwing a jerkbait in cooler water then I'm using the shad rap, that lure is a perfect example of what you get when a company focuses on catching fish rather than fisherman. A friend of mine has a hard time catching fish on crankbaits but he can catch fish on the shad rap, it just flat o...

Re: Favorite Propbait
Heddon Dying Flutter, you can still find them if you look around, a great prop bait that has a unique sound. The best performing patterns for me are the baby bass and clear, the clear is an absolute killer when there is just barely a chop on the water.
