Re: what reels is good for long distance casting

I took a old stock fuego, paid entirely too much ($100) for a zillion hyper long cast spool upgrade and turned it into a little red rocket launcher.

note, if you go with the steez go with the 100 version for the home run casts...

Re: A new Shimano Core for 2012 ?

rumor has it that the new core 100 will be aluminum and the same frame as last season's curado e, but altogether different because its color is a dark gunmetal. I believe i will buy a dozen to replace all my recently purchased
chron-rados.

all hail design redundancies.

kidding.

sort of.

Re: Baitcast Steez 103 or Shimano Core 50

both reels are very capable of casting lighter finesse plastics, but what sets that 103 steez apart is that r+ inductor and corresponding unmatched pitching ability. this is also assuming that price is not an issue because i had to take out a second mortgage for my daiwas...

Re: What is the best dobyns champion rod for crankbaits?

765 I think is a bit better for the 16+ only because the added length will help the bait get a bit deeper, both because of a longer cast, and for the good ol "kneel and reel". with a 1.5 im casting into tight spots where i think a seven foot or shorter rod will be a bit more accurate. if i had to ch...

Re: Dobyns 3 Power Champion Rods

yeah, I do believe the 763 was designed for finesse west coast c-riggin, where some lunatics (including myself on occasion) head down to 6 lb test leaders. not the most versatile rod, but when im fishing Diamond Valley, i probably fish it half the time im on the water. all that to say, yeah, probabl...

Re: Which Dobyns Extreme to go with?

I do believe you chose very wisely.
I originally bought the 744 just for football jigs but find myself using it
for so many other applications... my favorite dobyns to date.

Re: nrx 893C vs DX 743C

the nrx has the trademark loomis "crisp" sensitivity... the dx is a very sensitive rod in its own right but is not up to par with the nrx. however, it begs the question, how sensitive does a rod need to be to effectually improve one's catch rate? the dx is a solid all around rod, and has tremendous ...

Re: Help Me Pick My First Finesse Rod

I think the action on dobyns 702 rods are perfect for those applications. the tip is limber enough to confidently fish 6lb test, yet im always surprised by the muscle and turning power in a finesse application rod.

Re: Winchvs CrazyCrankervs Calcutta

im a huge fan of the zillion profile, it fits comfortably in the palm for hours while diggin deep with dd22s. Id definitely prefer it over the calcutta... as for the winch, ive never fished it so i cannot give a fair comparison. Regardless, I cant see you being disappointed by the cc.

Re: Casting Cumulus or Casting Nrx ?

owned the 7 foot 1 versions of the cumulus, and although light, were a tad tip heavy for my liking. placing a reel on it minimized the sensation, however, I still sold it off. great rod, but just didnt do it for me. Additionally, they are a bit lighter in action than listed... bottom line is these a...

Re: Favorite dropshot weight

I second the recommendation on the "pear" tungsten shaped weights in rocky structure... People have advised me to use the skinny stick shaped drop shot weights, however I still lost quite a few in the rocks. the feel and sensitivity of tungsten also helps quite a bit in determining structure transit...

Re: Dobyns DX744c or DX784C ML Jig Rod?

I personally use the 744 for dragging 1/2 oz. footballs in about that depth range and think its perfect for the application.
