Re: Spiral Wrapped Guides

Like the spiral wrap, casting distance seems on par with my other rods.
Have been fishing with a Spiral wrapped MHX 7'6", throws a 1oz crank just fine.
Having 2 new rods with spiral wraps being built right now.
My first was a Bud Erhardt fishing stick, probably from the early 1990's.

Re: carbon reel handles???

Mostly eye candy. I like the 95mm to replace the 80mm on some reels. You can spend some serious $ on the fancy JDM handles.
The Lews 95 mm CF handles are nice and for $50 not to expensive. They are about 5g. lighter than stock.

Re: JDM reel decision

Hey Dark3, just entered the "darkside" myself. Starting out with the FX73 SV. Going on a K2 HF 7'3" custom.
Botom contact baits 1/2 to 1oz. The FX68 was my first choice, but a couple of members made some suggestions.
Indeed, the Darkside is strong here!!!

Re: T3 SV or FX68

Thanks Guys, just what the Tackle Monkey needed, more options!!!
That Mago really looks like it can handle some big fish. Was partial to the FX68 Viola, thinking it would kind of go with a St. Croix
I'm having built,but.....the FX73 SV looks like a better choice.

Which would be the better choice for bottom contact baits in the 1oz. range?

Re: Fluorocarbon increases depth???

I like braid on the 10XD and any other deep diver, the foot or two I may gain using a lighter floro is offset by the extra power of the braid.

Re: Fluorocarbon increases depth???

Lots of good info here!! So, 14lb. Gamma edge @ .014in - .36mm vs Suffix 832 30 lb. @.011/0.29mm.
Throwing a 10XD on a long cast with an average retrieve with say a 5.4 reel. The floro would give me a slight depth increase over the braid? What would be the difference, a foot or two or more or less?

Re: Fluorocarbon increases depth???

Often wondered the same thing, 30lb. braid vs. 14lb floro, use both for cranking, can't really tell which runs deeper without an olympic size pool and a science student!!!

Re: New Zillion availability?

My local tackle shop has a rep sample. VERY NICE..feels light in hand and really smooth. Nice big clicky cast control.
Drag star is easy to turn, the handle feels just right. I'm on the list. Should be in sometime in Dec.

Re: Kistler Rods

Have a couple of KLX rods, they will handle what they are rated for no problem. Very light and tuff.
Indeed, the rod will tell you when it's overloaded!!
