Greasing of shimano low profile drags
Hi all, Been having trouble with getting decent drag pressure from a core 50. I've applied a really fine layer of cal's grease to it and lately upgraded to carbontex. Drag pressure and smoothness has improved but still under 10lbs. Was I meant to grease both sides or just the sides facing into the m...

Re: Quantum EXO pti spin vs Pflueger Patriarch XT.
Wow, patriarchs are pretty popular. I must have been lucky and scored a exo wd no faults, I still like it the exo more. Now, having used a mates I rate the smoke above them both. The surface finish seem to be superior to the exo

Re: Quantum EXO pti spin vs Pflueger Patriarch XT.
Anyone know whether I can order exo parts? Or where I can buy ceramic washers? I've been doing crazy tuning with my exo and I think I've might have come up wd something new. It's either gonna destroy the reel or make me the first to do this. I've manage to get the drag to pull 32 lb at lock. Also, i...

Re: New 2012 Shimano Reels
The Core 50, Curado 50E and Chronarch 50E all share tooling and spool weights. So they will all perform the same with light lures and light line. Now the Core has S-ARB bearings instead of the SS bearings in the CU/CH. It might have a slight edge because of this. I personally run ABEC 5 SS bearings...

Re: Stradic Ci4 vs. Pflueger Patriarch magnesium spinning
Where I'm from we have different species and they get much bigger. Would love to try catch bass in the us one day to gauge the difference. However 6lb drag is fine if the drag is smooth and not too many snags. I load 20-30lb braid onto my 2000-3000 size spools. Some go up to 50lb here.

Re: Quantum EXO pti spin vs Pflueger Patriarch XT.
The Patriarch 9530 has more than enough line capacity for bass fishing and is lighter. It also comes with a spare spool with an even higher line capacity that is not listed. It may also be more sensitive because of it's magnesium rotor. However, the drag is not the best. More info: The patriarch 95...

Re: Daiwa Price Premium.
That explains it! I remember dad looking at shimanos, penns, dams and settling for a daiwa! I think they were regals and the first twistbuster. Lol, I feel old. I remember spider wire 1st coming out.Sonicx360 wrote:I think they started going high-end in 1998 with the original TD Z.

Re: Stradic Ci4 vs. Pflueger Patriarch magnesium spinning
i justtook my 9530 carbon spool apart, and can confirm that it does indeed have 2 washers in there, not sure on the actual pressure it creates but i does have 2 washers! That would make good sense. a carbon washer on either side of the locked steel washer I'm guessing. I've been working on increasi...

Re: Quantum EXO pti spin vs Pflueger Patriarch XT.
I would take the Pflueger hands down. I have been burned with Quantums too many times in the past. I think the Pflueger looks nicer, the handle on the smoke and EXO look terrible. My Patriarch is my 2nd favorite spinning reel, right behind the Daiwa Fuego, on sale at Tacklewarehouse right now! I do...

Re: Why isn't titanium used more?
If money was no object, you could go a lot further than Ti. Imagine a real with 1. amorphorus metal e.g Ti-Zi liquidmetal alloys http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquidmetal reinforced with boron fibres for the frame and plates 2. pure ceramic bearings, 3.nomex fibre handles. You'd be looking at a 1oz S...

Re: Daiwa Price Premium.
Higher end daiwa huh? For me the z is too big, steez...got a super tuned core5g7. That would leave the pixie if I move south or the t3. The t3 does interest me but I might wait for a 1st revision after they iron out some kinks.

Re: Stradic Ci4 vs. Pflueger Patriarch magnesium spinning
Spool of 12# Nanofil in the carbon arbor 2. How are the default bearings? Was thinking of uprading to boca abec 7 orange seals but if they are good already then I might hold out. I have 8 lb. Nanofil on a 9530 spool. Contrary to Berkley's claims about this line having no memory, it does retain coil...

Re: Quantum EXO pti spin vs Pflueger Patriarch XT.
When I chose to buy the EXO 30 the reasons were: Material: I mainly fish saltwater. History: I own an Energy PtiB 20 and it's proven to be a winner. Asthetics: IMO the exo looks better esp with a white veritas rod. Exclusivity: not for sale in Australia. Still I'm looking to purchase a patriarch XT ...

Quantum EXO pti spin vs Pflueger Patriarch XT.
These two reels seem to have quite a lot in common. 1. Designed in the USA. 2. Made in China. 3. Owned by larger company (zebco, purefishing) 4. Metal bodied, alternative materials in parts (ceramics, Ti, that Ni memory wire) 5. Light and rigid 6. 10 BB 7. $199 at TW. Which one do you think wins the...
