Re: Reel Gear Physics
Adding longer handle does increase the torque being applied to the drive shaft though, because torque equation takes into account of distance between the pivot point to the point where you are applying the force. Think about it this way; when you are adding more length to the handle, you are increa...

Re: Reel Gear Physics
First off I'd like to say that I am not a physicist nor is it my specialty and will probably be wrong with these figures. Please feel free to chime in and correct me. Sometimes when I'm bored at work the gears in my head turn it gets me thinking... A lot of people TT like to upgrade their handle le...

Re: Budget Daiwas...Revros vs. RG?
I have a couple of the RG-AB reels, they have been very smooth, and have held up to some good fish in heavy grass. I have enjoyed the reels. I have many other spinning reels but would add that I prefer these reels to the more expensive Pflueger Supreme. Very fair price for the quality of these reels.

Re: Daiwa Alpha SV 105 question.
Maybe i'm doing something wrong but my levelnwind does not budge when i turn the handle whilen holding the spool in place. The drag is slipping so it would make sense that the gearing is not driving the worm gear. It will not work with the way you are doing it. You are keeping the main gear from tu...

Re: Daiwa Alpha SV 105 question.
Casting in no different than most other reels, the levelwind disengages. When the reel is engaged and drag is pulled the levelwind does track back and forth. The Sol and Fuego also perform like this. OG models. This is done by the idler gear having six small bumps that fit into six small holes on th...

Re: Daiwa's Magforce brake impeded by the earth's gravity?
Other than the magnets themselves there is nothing magnetic on a spool. The braking effect is the result of counter EMF or Eddy Current and not the result of the inductor being magnetic. In short the magnets do not pull the inductor outward towards them.

Re: Now that time has passed, opinions on recoil guides
I own a few Gloomis and St. Croix rods with recoil guides. They seem to make the tip end slightly lighter and perhaps a touch more sensitive overall. I have had no ill experience with using them.

Re: Aftermarket spool bearings
Hmmm, so we are saying that the ZPI and H.H. bearings are smoother and quieter than the Boca's, but both the ZPI and H.H. come from the factory oiled and at least 1 requires oil. One of the things I have heard/seen discussed here is that there is no reason to purchase a ceramic bearing if you are th...

Re: Aftermarket spool bearings
Gary, with the ability to compare all three in hand, can you share some of the things that you feel make the H.H. or ZPI bearings a better choice than the Boca OS.
Thanks

Re: Theoretical quetion regarding taper and type of reel braking
Seems to be a bit too vague of a question. Not all magnetic brakes operate the same, the same can be said for centrifugal brakes as well. Generalizations could be made but it may come down to comparing a specific reel/spool/braking design to another.
