Re: First Tests and a Look Inside the 13 Fishing Concept Z - Zero Ball Bearing Baitcaster

If you think your product is the next BIG thing in fishing reels, you shouldn't have to wait to see how the first reels sell. I doubt seriously if Shimano and Daiwa operate that way. Hell, even Abu sells cranking reels in the 5's. Oh well. I prefer to think of this as my Tesla. There were probably ...

Re: First Tests and a Look Inside the 13 Fishing Concept Z - Zero Ball Bearing Baitcaster

Disappointing to find out only 1 left hand gear ratio being offered. In addition, no low gear ratio's (5's) being offered for crankbaits. Could possibly hurt sales. I'm pretty sure they'll come out with more left handed gear ratios, once the initial rush to fill the right handed orders subsides. Bu...

Re: Quantum's Surprising New Smoke Series Three (S3)

Cal, I bought six of the original Smoke Burner 7/1 reels when they went on sale for half price. They have been real workhorses and relatively bullet proof, as long as I lube the aluminum gears. Do you find this new Smoke S3 to be a big improvement over the Burner? I replaced one of the Burners with ...

Cal/Zander,
I want to have my feminist daughter use your guides to pick something out for me, but I'm afraid she'll think it's online porn!

Re: Fishing Drones Have Arrived: The Ludicrous PowerRay, a Fishing Drone that Uses Sonar and 4K Video to Catch Fish

It's like SI on steroids. The potential to explore underwater is amazing. I wouldnt use it to actually fish with, but to be able to go down and actually scout the environment the fish are living in is extremely beneficial. No different that snorkeling or diving and doing the same, although you dont...

Re: Fishing Drones Have Arrived: The Ludicrous PowerRay, a Fishing Drone that Uses Sonar and 4K Video to Catch Fish

Bottom line. How much? I would use something like this to explore underwater structure vs catching fish. I asked them the same question at the show and they said that they had not yet determined the launch MSRPs. A good reference may be their flying drone, the "PowerEgg" which retails for...

Re: Fishing Drones Have Arrived: The Ludicrous PowerRay, a Fishing Drone that Uses Sonar and 4K Video to Catch Fish

When I saw this at the show the first thing I thought was exactly what I repeated in the video "can you really call this fishing?" There is no doubt that drones are going to become more prevalent in the water too but it was interesting that PowerVision decided to target anglers specifical...

New JDM Casitas reel review

I just read Cal's review of the new JDM Casitas reel, and it sounds like a winner. I was struck with how having a light spool is so key for throwing light baits, even more so that a million bearings. I guess that's why I still love my Chronarch MG 50's. Only five bearings, but it throws light stuff ...

Re: The Tatula Web Continues to Grow : E-Glass Cranking Stic

Please stop reviewing stuff, 'cause I'm going broke! Seriously, I was looking for a cranking rod for heavier stuff when I read your review, and it was just what I had been looking for. I got the rod Wednesday, put an original Smoke 7/1 reel on it with 17lb flouro, and tried it out with a 1/2 o...
