Re: Daiwa TD Fuego-A spinning reels

So got my Fuego 2000 today ...Also some pics as to where the 2000 fits in size wise vs the Shimanos. I say its in between the 1000 and 2500 shimanos but if I had to pick I'd say closer to the 1000 size? Is that a 1000 size Shimano on the left? I'm surprised that the 2000 Fuego A spool is so nearly ...

Re: Fenwick Elite Tech River Runner 7'6 Review

A warning about ordering from Red's on Amazon: I ordered an Elite Tech rod from Red's that way. It arrived broken, no surprise considering that it was sent in a flimsy cardboard box that was designed to be square but was taped in a flattened diamond shape before shipping. Darndest thing I ever saw. ...

Re: Inline Spinner

Are you guys fishing the Sally with just the original skirt, or adding a trailer of some kind?

Do you get many hits in open water, or just when it is banging through cover?

Impressive! Too bad the ported spool idea got shelved for so long.

Re: looking to get into fly fishing

The original poster, heretofore an ultralight fan, didn't say anything about chasing world records, and in his post before your last one said he wants to start with an inexpensive rig for bass. He previously posted that he wants to buy the entire outfit for $100 or so, so that if he doesn't like it ...

Re: looking to get into fly fishing

If you are only planning to use it for bass and panfish, with leaders heavier than most of the fish you will be catching (to turn over the bass flies), your reel wouldn't even need to have a drag. It just needs to hold line. Steelhead are something else.

Re: looking to get into fly fishing

If you plan to target mostly bass, an 8 or 9 weight 9-footer will give you the ability to cast the size flies that target bass. The 9-weight will cast the more wind-resistant flies better and move fish out of weedy areas better, but would reduce the pleasure of bringing in smaller bass and the occas...

Re: A NJ Smallie caught on UL tackle

That is the most handsomely colored pickerel I have ever seen. On that gray carpet, it seems to glow with its own light!

Those who tough out the weather this time of year can get rewarded; I'm glad you did!

Re: First Attempt at Bluegill Painting

I like that you didn't apply much orange to the belly; IMO, it would be even better with no orange there. Females and all juvenile bluegills the size of most crankbaits don't have the orange chests that mature spawning males have--a color that probably signals to most bass that the bluegill might be...

Re: Yo-Zuri Hybrid vs. McCoy Mean Green

Hybrid is considerably stronger for its diameter than Mean Green is and is more abrasion resistant. Mean Green is a lot limper than Hybrid, but if you aren't going to have much slack in your line when cranking, that probably isn't a significant enough plus to outweigh the advantages Hybrid has.

Re: Skipping your cast

For me, a short (6 foot or so) spinning rod works better than a long one for dock skipping. A light reel with a large spool, like a Patriarch 9540, helps with heavier line.

Re: 4# mono comparison

The last poster nailed it. Ultragreen has one of the lowest strengths for diameter of any pricey line, and it is thick for a 4-lb. rated line. But it resists abrasion very well and has lots of stretch, which can be helpful in ultralight angling. It also has a color that can help it blend in underwat...

Thanks for the link to the lure catalogs. It was fun to look at the Arbogast 1962 catalog.

Are you referring to the green version, or is the "clear" funky as well?
