felt washer life in spinning setups
How often for those who freshwater fish, do you change the felt washers in your spinning reels? I just ordered some replacements. It's not like any of my current washers are destroyed, but I have a feeling replacing them might relate to more consistent drag performance on the drag curve.

Re: Life of brass gears in casting reels
I mainly bass fish and certain rods take a beating, namely my frog setup. Braided line and winching fish from cover. I mainly use the rod to fight fish, but there are times it's neccessary to lean back with the rod and crank hard on the handle at the same time, namely when in risk of the fish puttin...

Re: Here's what I did with a squeaky E7
You are exactly right eyra. Once a clutch starts slipping I've never been able to get them back to "perfect" condition. In my case I wanted to experiment. If the grease causes the clutch to slip, so be it, I will replace at that time. But in the meantime I'm going to fish with it until is has a slip...

Life of brass gears in casting reels
In a reel that is maintained, what have you found to be the average life of brass gears? I know I read in the past someone posted they last forever. As most of my reels were bought and used heavily years ago before I got into home maintenance, I've replaced a goodly number of gear sets but many were...

Looking to buy a pile of Shimano spinners
In the near future I'm looking to buy 3 shimano spinning reels, and after looking at their webpage I'm struggling as to which model to go with. My two favs I currently own are a ci4+FA and stradic FJ both in 2500 size. The current stradic looks nice, and I'm sure the fordvan is a nice reel too, but ...

Re: Is there that much "junk" line making it to shelves?
fluorocarbon line is one of the most over hyped/overrated things in fishing. Let me elaborate - it has it's place in certain applications BUT the way some people act as if catching a fish on anything besides it is almost an impossibility is laughable. We fishermen can be lemmings the way we take 'i...

Re: Gear grease opinions
Super lube has been great on lighter finer spin and baitcast reels. And I've been using this ceramic fortified grease for a long while now, pretty good results on baitcast reels. I bought the 1 pound tub of this stuff and am about to put in on a bunch of reels, so hope it works good! I bought based...

Stradic Ci4+ 2500 FA One way clutch
I might have posted about this reel a year or two ago. I actually have 3 of these identical model reels and they've all been good to me. One in particular has problems from time to time with the handle slipping backwards. It seems to be worse in colder weather. I had it out today, with temps hoverin...

"older" shimano casting reels
I know from all the posts here, that people are always asking about daiwa SV 103 tatula HD xp yz bla bla bla variants. Adding some new weird spring and having it super tuned by captain reel magic. All that being said, none of it will beat a curado E, chronarch E, chronarch D, CU200B, CH100SF, CU50E,...

spro rat smaller sizes
I'm wondering if anyone has tried the smaller version of the SPRO rat, either 25 or 30. They are supposed to be a wakebait, but I've heard that they dive like a crankbait. I do own a big one, but only threw it a few times, and now it sits on the shelf collecting sunlight and dust.

Looking to try a cicada bait. Opinions?
I fish a few small rivers with a lot of bugs around. I want to try a cicada type bait and see how it works. I believe there's three out there, the megabass grand siglett, savage gear 3d cicada, and one by duo realis. Has anyone tried any and have opinions on which one I should try? From what I know ...

reels in australia
Does australia get the same model reels as the US. What are the main species targeted there, is it all saltwater or do they have lakes there? Is there largemouth bass? Smallmouth? Brown trout?
