Re: Maximum bait for Daiwa Alphas/Sol?

I see two direct effects that occur between a small vs larger reel for casting and retrieving heavy baits. A larger reel implies a larger diameter spool, so: - A smaller diameter spool will spin more times during a cast or retrieve, than a larger diameter spool, as line comes off/onto the spool. Thi...

Re: standard Pixy drag upgrade?

fbass asked: If I understand it right it means that the bearing transmits the pressure from the 2 () washers to the sleeve eventually to the drag itself, right? So that means 2 things: 1) the bearing moves in and and out with varying drag pressure 2)should I tighten the drag more than reasonnable I...

Re: standard Pixy drag upgrade?

fbass asked: By clutch bearing do you mean roller bearing? is the "collar" the part that looks like a tube on the inside of the roller bearing, anti-reverse in other words? Yes, the roller bearing is the clutch bearing, sometimes called the anti-reverse bearing. The collar is the sleeve that runs i...

Re: Round Shape vs. Lower Profile Baitcasting Reel

I prefer low profiles, only because I palm all of my reels. I don't cast heavy swim baits or need to cast a long distance while shore fishing, so don't need a lot of line capacity. I also like the lighter weight of a low profile, but that's just me. Some round and low profiles are stronger and bette...

Re: Daiwa zillion problem

If the spring was forced during incorrect installation, it can get bent. With use, it will no longer ride correctly in the Clutch Cam Plate and will work out and rub on the small poly pentagon shaped Clutch Cam Plate B that is held on the Handle Plate with adhesive. When this happens, it can take mo...

Re: Daiwa zillion problem

My first thought is the clutch cam spring is not installed correctly. Some Daiwas it's possible to install the spring backwards (compressed and pointing the wrong direction), although I can't remember if the Zillion is one of them. Here's some others: Make sure the Clutch Trip Plate Retainer (e-ring...

Re: centrifugal vs magnetic

Here's my take on things, focused a little more on the original question. I've found spool tension (from an adjustment knob or even a trained thumb), is more of an influence than the actual braking employed, while learning: Centrifugal, Magforce, or linear doesn't make a whole lot of difference when...

Re: Pixy handle

Unless you have a contact like Japan Tackle, they are not easy to get. You will periodically see them in the For Sale Section of the forum, when somebody upgraded to a TD-Z or other handle. A new TD-Z handle with bearings and knobs is $39 plus s/h from Daiwa USA. It has 4 bearings (2 under each knob...
