Re: Tatula TT Product Review
Cal reported that the Tatula has an 18-gram spool. That is 50% heavier than the spool on a Gen 1 Premier, a Scorpion 1000XT, an MG50, or a CU50E. To be able to comfortably pitch lures with a total weight of 1/4 oz. with such a heavy spool is indeed unusual, so I understand both Cal's surprise and t...

Re: Daiwa's New Workhorse Has Thoroughbred Tendencies : Tatu
Daiwa is really looking to take market share with this one. I wonder what the Abu and Shimano camps will do. I think things like this will make life really hard on little guys like Lews, Okuma, etc...considering most consumers aren't weight weenies...this might put a few fringe players out of the ma...

Re: New rod/reel rating system
The new rating system introduced in http://tackletour.com/reviewratingscalibration2013.html is almost completely subjective. All the ratings have an element of personal interpretation. One man's perfectly aligned guide might be another man's slightly skew tip-top! And don't get me started on fraugh...

Well, in a more qualitative shootout, the Sufix won:

It will be interesting to see numbers. Even if Mr. Ted Daibias-e shows up.

TT isn't doing "Knot Wars". That was already done.

Re: Bait the Finesse?!? Shimano -v- Daiwa Product Insight
quite often Shimano bearings are packed in grease. i have a hunch that grease will lessen free spool too... per the article, these spin tests were done "out of the box" so we really cant say there was a level playing field to begin with :big grin: Or...maybe "out of the box" is ...

Re: Bait the Finesse?!? Shimano -v- Daiwa Product Insight
@Tokugawa Man we're just messing around, it's not a big deal. It's a funny incident because its Cal. If it was anyone else it wouldn't have been as funny. I mean- your telling me Cal not finding the cast control knob isn't funny? C'mon.. It's all in good fun. No need to call people 'sheeple'. OK - ...

Re: Bait the Finesse?!? Shimano -v- Daiwa Product Insight
I'm just glad there are tests being done by people here who actually fish, instead of engineers. While engineers are smart (just ask them), they also make mistakes because they sometimes can't see the forest for the trees. Remember that Mars probe they parked sub-surface on Mars, because one set of...

Re: Bait the Finesse?!? Shimano -v- Daiwa Product Insight
I have no real interest in free spool times...especially for really light spools. Casting would really make the tests conclusive, not the free spool time, or the weights that make the spools move... that's for desk junkies, not for people who actually fish the reels. Making actual casting tests in h...

That's interesting. Does it rotate like a normal cast control knob?

Re: Bait the Finesse?!? Shimano -v- Daiwa Product Insight
Excellent, excellent review Cal! =D> =D> Good to see the data from the machine hit publication. :big grin: Both seem like outstanding builds...except for that one...little...item. I couldn't get the tension knob's spanner tool to seat properly on the tension knob without taking the reel apart. Shima...

Re: Regaining His Edge : Bass Rods by Gary Loomis
Do they have a website already ? I could not find any mention of the rods on the North Fork web site, I guess we'll have to wait. http://www.edgerods.com/ I'll hold judgement until I see the rods. I can say for sure that the blanks are the real deal but it always seems there's something about off-t...

Re: Cranking at a Higher Level, the New G.Loomis GLX
Question on the handle length - is the 13.5" measurement from the butt to the reel seat, or does it include the reel seat? It seems long for a 6'6" rod...and the review noted the handle was short. Excellent review! =D> Question: do you consider the reel seat part of the handle or a separa...
