Re: New Mentanium XG
So have you tested out the reel any more? How's the retrieve feel on it? Can you compare it to any other Shimano that you own? Or does the "micro module gearing" put it in a class by itself? Looking real hard at getting one of these

Custom painted reels..show em off..
I've never had a reel custom painted, but I'm considering it. Trying to get some ideas on color schemes and whatnot. Let's see what y'all got!

Re: Finesse Cranking Reel
Thanks for the replies guys, I'm going to check out the 50E a little more and definitely the Alphas type F. I couldn't imagine fishing crankbaits with a spinning outfit it would drive me bonkers! Ditto! I'll just throw in another huge vote of confidence for the Scorpion 1000XT..love that reel and i...

Re: Jerkbait/Topwater baitcaster
I agree with some of the others that you don't want a slow reel, but nothing super fast either. Something around 26-28" IPT that's fairly lightweight and palms really well. I would vote for any of the 50 size Shimanos(Curado50, Chronarch50, Core50, Scorpion 1000XT). I actually own all 4 8-) They are...

Re: Weight factor
Tip torque Center of gravity Cradling the reel while cranking IMO, it's not all about the total weight. I agree with dragon1 on this.. I've had ultralight setups before that didn't feel all that light because maybe the rod felt tip heavy with such a light reel on it, or something like that. I've al...

Re: Line capacity... Just don't get it.
I agree! The first company to really cater to that and start offering spool options or reels that come with 2 spools will/should do very well and it will be done everywhere shortly after it's introduced. I think the Core's line capacity is just about right at 12/85. I've found that reels with the lo...

Micro Module Gearing(Antares HG + new Metanium)..discussion
"The new Antares employs innovative features to make it at the summit of Shimano bait casters. The most noticeable feature is micro module gear system, which has twice the number of gear teeth than previous models, to drastically reduce the gearing noise." The above is copied from the description of...

Re: Wacky worm gear ratio
I am always working wacky worms and/or weightless worms with my rod and with the slack line, so I prefer a fast reel for these applications because all I'm using the reel for is to retrieve the slack line. It also helps to catch up with fish that swim right at you after the hookset, or ones that bol...

Re: What is your go to reel/reels?
Well just about any reel I own has been a go-to reel of mine at one point or another depending on what pattern I'm on and what baits I'm throwing most..but in general, I'd say my go to reels are my Core50MG7s/Scorpion, and then my Lews reels..
