going price on CH50 Mg's

I've got 2 CH50mg's I'm thinking of hawking, both were well used when I got them, but I gutted them and stuck in new parts where needed, and they work great now. New knobs, drags, spool bearings in one of them. Clutches/tubes replaced as well. How many greenbacks do you think they'll fetch?

accessories for stripping/spooling line

I was just wondering on any good tools you guys have found for spooling or stripping line off reels. I just tossed a really really old berkley stripper that went to pot finally. Did a search online and the ones now look about the same as they did 20 years ago.

Re: Spinning Reel Drag tuning

Thanks for the advice/info, I see what you mean about the cage chewing up the felt, as I have seen this in my reels. That being said the washers still seem to last a good while for me so I'll stick with them for now. Plus I think felt washers are less prone to problems due to "overgreasing" vs. carb...

Re: Pre service reels and question for Slaz

Thanks for the heads up!! I think I've got 8 CU E's and 3 CH E's. Now I'll be prepared if this ever happens.

Re: Pre service reels and question for Slaz

The Curado E and Chronarch E is the reel I've spent the most time with. I was never aware of a defect. What exactly is the clutch leg? The post that the anti-reverse pawl is seated on? One of the tabs on the inner tube? I once fixed a budy's reel(CH100A) where a screw backed out of the clutch cam re...

Re: Pre service reels and question for Slaz

Thanks a lot for the detailed reply, it makes a lot more sense to me now. I'll break down the next new reel I buy and give it a clean and relube. I've got no clue what Holden is by the way :? must be an Australian thing

Pre service reels and question for Slaz

Hey Slazmo, this was a quote of yours from the "bang for your buck" post. "Most if not all reels are damn good out of the box these days. But more importantly is to pre service the reel out of the box which'll add years to its life. That first few initial uses with factory grease is what decides the...

Who knows, maybe Jared got cut. I don't think he's ever won anything has he? Who is on Shimanos pro staff other than a mart?

Spool width vs. length effect on casting and line management

I'm wondering about the stated question after seeing the flooger arbor reel. It's gotten some favorable reviews on TW. It's got a very short but wide spool. I was wondering what people think of this reel and also about casting difference with a spool that is wider/narrower vs. longer/shorter.

replacement hooks for original floaters

I'm wondering what the favorite replacement hooks are for original floating rapalas. The sizes I throw are F11s, 9s, and 7s. Mainly for trout, and between snags and removing hooks I have the factory hooks bend, or dull up a lot.

Re: Roller clutch issues?

The squeaking w/casting reel clutches I have run into is either on some of my old dirty curados that were never maintained. This was several years ago before I got into maintenance. I broke the reels down and there was water/rust in the clutches and on the surface of the inner tube. Cleaning and/or ...

Best bang for the buck spinning reel

I've been talking to some fellow fishermen about what the best spinning reel is in a midrange price point, maybe 75-120 dollars. A lot of these guys don't maintain their equipment, so longevity/durability are important too.

Re: Roller clutch issues?

Hold my beer... Because let's be honest I doubt they're even oiled from factory... Haha, I figured you'd have a pic of a rusted out spinning reel clutch. I'm guessing it had use in the salt. For my shimano spinning reels I usually only clean once every two years although if a reel starts feeling of...

Re: Roller clutch issues?

Roller clutches, especially the newer ones, have been one of the trickiest aspects of reel service for me. I know the answer is usually to place oil on q tip and then swab the rollers with a really light coat. I've done this before and put the reel back together and there can be a squeaking noise wh...
