Re: Aldebaran 22 and Avail spool?
I have the Gekkabijin and two 22 Aldebarans with Avail spools.
I really like the Daiwa and the Shimano reel in stock form. The Avail spools help with the very light lures, but for my fishing with 3.5-7.0 gram lures stock spool does great.

Re: Fiberglass BFS Trout Rods
I have 3 custom made fiberglass rods - 2 by Resilure in the UK and 1 by a norwegian rod builder.
The Resilure rods are around 6’ and the other rod is a bit longer.
I highly recommend Resilure.

Re: 2 piece JDM rods any problems vs 1 piece?
any problems with big sensitivity loss vs a 1 piece in rods like the poison glorious or poison ultima? also when casting is there any chance the pieces can split and go flying into the water like budget rods do? Whole Europe is fishing with 2 piece rods, they work just fine. If they are properly pu...

Re: Anyone had a rod shipped from Asian Portal?
Had a Fenwick BFS rod shipped from Asian Portal two years ago or so. FedEx and bubble wrap with no solid protection. Only company that has shipped a rod to me in that risky fashion.

Hawaii Big Island
I am heading to Big Island, Hawaii, in February. Work related but with a little spare time. Will staying on the western part of the Island, north of Kona. Can anybody spare a few tips on fishing in the area. I guess big game off shore is amazing and info is appreciated. How about inshore/coastal and...

Re: New Finesse/BFS reel for salt water
Very nice reel. I love the 34 mm Daiwas. If you find difficulty in casting your lighter lures then you can get one of many aftermarket spools.DrSteveBrule wrote: ↑Fri Nov 25, 2022 2:18 amI suppose the Zillion would be best for a wider range of use. Not optimal for BFS but doable to give it a go.

Re: New Finesse/BFS reel for salt water
Depends on line choice. If you go with thin braid then you will get >50 meters and I do not see much issue with perch or zander. They will not run far. You will probably cast ~ 30 meters with a 5 gram lure. For the Alphas and Gekkabijin you can get the deep aftermarket spool from Aliexpress. You nee...

Re: New Finesse/BFS reel for salt water
Welcome. For saltwater fishing mostly 5-10 gram lures - and in order of preference with ties, I would be happy with: Round reels: 1. Shimano Conquest bfs (perhaps with deep Avail spool) 1. Shimano Conquest 101 DC (if 5+ gram) 2. Daiwa Millionaire CT with aftermarket spool (e.g. Ktf, hard to get). 2....

No. They are nice and there is not that much hype imo.

Re: Finesse/BFS reel for distance casting?
FYI, there is a DIY/Rays BFS deep spool that evidently helps launch finesse baits extra distance on the Gekkabijin, so it should work on other Daiwa platforms with this same spool design and specs. This said, I'm not sure that a 1/16 oz hair jig is going to "launch" with any BFS reels. I have light...

Re: Finesse/BFS reel for distance casting?
You will do well with Daiwa GekkaBijin or Shimano Aldebaran BFS. Both reels are a little expensive. However, with BFS type lures you are not going to cast a mile and most reels will be close. ABU ALC BF7 can be found relatively cheap in Japan and it casts well too.
