Re: Which gear ratio I should get?

Welcome to TT. With 3-10 gram lures you will not be using (very) big spinners. I have the reel in 7 and 8 GR and primarily use them for trout in streams with 3-7 gram, rarely 10 gram, spinners, spoons and minnows. If you mostly fish lakes get 7. If you most fish streams and cast downstream get 7 (ma...

Re: Vintage BFS

I don't know how far into the past you want to go with the rod. 25 years ago, the rod to have for really light stuff was the cr721 imx. Tackle Tour uses one to test bfs reels from time to time. F8nding one would be a chore. I have one in very good condition that I would be willing to sell, so it is...

Re: Vintage BFS

I have a bunch of ABU 4601 with avail and DIY spools. They do great with 5-7 grams but I have trouble going very low with them. I also have a 1601C with avail and DIY spools and it is a very good BFS reel with a smaller profile than the 4601s. Unfortunately, I do not own a 2000 size ABU, but it soun...

Re: Braid on Daiwa TW reels

Not to my knowledge and experience. I use different braid on many different TW reels. That said, I do not like the more flat types of thermally bonded super line on any baitcaster (e.g. Fireline)

Re: Do You Use Spinning Reels?

I prefer baitcasters, find them more fun to use, and used them exclusively for many years. I especially enjoy light tackle fishing with baitcasters. However, during the past 1-2 years I have begun to use spinning reels again, but only for inshore fishing. I get a little bit more distance in most sit...

Welcome to TT Bartosz.
Beautiful reel! Which rod will you pair the reel with?

Cheers Michael, Denmark

Re: Help me unbox and prepare the right way with new reels

Fish stock first.

Use braid straight using this approach:

-Take spool out, pass line through worm gear and then through the side of the reel before tying to the reel. I use uni-knot first and then 2 half stitches. Works absolutely great.

Re: Enough with the tackle. LETS SEE SOME FISH!

Beautiful pics Dalleinf! What was the approximate length of the 8.5 lb brown? Keep those pictures coming! Both of them were around or just below 8.5 lbs with a length 67 cm = 26.4 inches. If one looks bigger than the other it is due to camera angle. They were quite fat with a Fulton condition facto...

Re: Enough with the tackle. LETS SEE SOME FISH!

Amazing! I didn't see your "location". Those are beautiful fish! Do you mind sharing how you caught them? I will show you and other TT members the spot if/when you get near 😀 I walk upstream and cast upstream. Spinner (mostly mepps comet style size 2-3). Spoons 3.5-5.0 gram. Sinking minnows esp. Ti...

Re: Enough with the tackle. LETS SEE SOME FISH!

Hello Steve,
No. I would love to try US lake browns.
These are sea run browns from a danish stream. Jutland where I live - the part of Denmark that is connected to northern Germany - has many small and large streams with sea run trout (and a few salmon streams).

Glass rods casting style - esp. Bfs

I have 3 glass casting rods for BFS. Two of them are approx. 6' and 1-6 gram casting weight and one is 6'6" and 2-10 gram casting weight. I have used them for (large) trout fishing and they are fun to use. However, I have to change my casting stroke and perform very gentle casts to avoid backlash - ...

Re: Braid Digging in...still

I cannot say that I experience this - except if I by accident I get the line caught beneath itself when getting the setup ready. I use 0.12 mm Sufix braid (~10 lb?) on most of my BFS reels from ABU, Shimano, and 34mm Daiwa reels (with aftermarket bfs spools). I use thinner ~0.10 mm Varivas, other JD...
