Re: My Certate and Luvias have arrived

I used mine mostly with a St Croix Avid 7ft ML or Medium action. I spooled 10lb Power Pro on it and it works great. Right now I switched the Certate to 20lb Power Pro and the Luvias to 10lb Power Pro(braided line = PE?)

Re: Certate- Great review Cal!

Cal, I was the one that posted about the handle on the 4000 size Certate. I still have the 2500 size but returned the 4000 back to Cabelas. The 2000 and smaller have the "i" knob but the 2500 and larger have the larger "paddle" knob. It is the way that the paddle knob is attached to the handle that ...

Re: 3000 sized reels

I returned the 4000. I still have the 2500. I'm thinking about the new Caldia KIX in the 2500-3000 size. The 2500 is perfect for 10-20 lb power pro.

Re: 3000 sized reels

It all depends on the mechanism to hold the knob in. We won't know until a certate 2500RCustom post the pictures of how the handle knob is held in place. Needless to say, an aluminum sleeve should be used in place of that thin plastic piece.

Re: Daiwa SS Tournament reels ???

It has 28 point or so antireverse. Pretty advance for it's time back then. It is not continuous, it has a slight back play. The point is, this reel grows on you and you can't appreciate until you use it and compare it's "functionality" vs other reel that might feel better but not perform better in t...

Re: Daiwa Certate 4000:You gotta be kidding me!!

I would say get a 3500HD when they become available unless you are set on a 2500 size. The machine handle might have a different way of fastening the knob on. I have the 2500 that you can try. I only spooled 10lb test spiderwire stealth on it, so drag isn't an issue even though it is butter smooth.

Re: Daiwa SS Tournament reels ???

What's more important to you? Feel or functionality? Feel: It is clunky due to the lack of infinite antireverse. It wobbles like hell but how often due you reel that quick when actually fishing. Functionality: Here's where it shines. It has the best line capacity to weight. Look at the weight of an ...

Re: Daiwa Certate 4000:You gotta be kidding me!!

Yes, Cabelas shipped it out free and picked it up for free via UPS. After examining it more carefully, I see that the screw holds the sleeve in place but 2/3 of the "T" of the knob rest on the 2/3 of that sleeve and there is nothing but air on that part of the sleeve. Look carefully at the picture a...

Re: Daiwa Certate 4000:You gotta be kidding me!!

You cant have a load bearing part being plastic. Exactly the sentence I was looking for!!!. 18lb of drag and less than a pound of force is all that is required to break that thin sleeve holding the knob. Hello..... this is the handle that turns the reel!!!!!!!! This can be easily corrected using al...

Re: Daiwa Certate 4000:You gotta be kidding me!!

It's the design that bothers me. More than a third of the knob rest on that thin plastic sleeve. Grab the knob accidentally too far from the handle and crank down hard and you broke that sleeve. Pop the knob out and you will see what I mean. The daiwa label is attached to that thin sleeve. Pop that ...

Daiwa Certate 4000:You gotta be kidding me!!

 !!! While dreaming of pulling large snook from area bridges, I finally settled on 30lb braid instead of 50lb braid for better castability. I packed the line really tight and I guessed I must have reeled down to hard. The handle knob came off the handle!!!!!!!!!!. What was more aggrevating was...

Free TDA rod with TDS purchase: Cabelas

Probably a bad idea to post it in this forum. For those of you that need another combo like you need a bullet in your head, look away now. Otherwise, Cabelas is running a promotion where they are discounting the Daiwa TDS reel(bait cast reel) to $119.00 and throwing in a free Daiwa TDA rod. The spec...

Re: My Certate and Luvias have arrived

The Cape Fear I have is the ADV170-70s. Why anyone would use this rod in the flats/open water is beyond me. It is heavier than the longest and heaviest Loomis flats rod. It cast most lure god awful when compared to a properly matched flats outfit. Any line of St. Croix in comparable action is lighte...
