Re: We really not gonna talk about the new 2020 Ultima 172H “full carbon triangle grip”?
Definitely on the hit list to try. Was hoping they’d also do the 170H+ option in the Ultima finally but the 172H is widely loved. I like that the handle is slightly longer than the previous 172H too. Gonna look like a stealth bomber on the water. Anyone know if these are full Ti/Torzite or the mix o...

We really not gonna talk about the new 2020 Ultima 172H “full carbon triangle grip”?

March 2020 debut... Poison Ultima 172H getting the full carbon grip upgrade treatment in a new “triangle shape”. Looks like that’s going to be the new top dog for Shimano.

Re: Evergreen Rapid Gunner RSR
Nice Evergreen pickup! RSR vs HD: guides are the only difference. Grip, seat, and blanks are identical. Guides on the RSR are Ti/Torzite single foot semi-micro and on the HD they’re Ti/Torzite double foot 0.5-1.0 size increase each from the RSR. For this reason I went with the HD version personally....

Re: JDM Shimano vs USDM Gloomis Comparisons
Anyone own the Glorious 170H+, 169XH, or 176XXH? Looking at the heavy cover options and would love to hear any reviews.
They look like they all have impressively light weight and I’m thinking that 169XH weighing in at 117 grams would be a blast to fish.

Re: JDM Shimano vs USDM Gloomis Comparisons
For the record I’m only comparing Adrena to IMX/GLX on paper based on their price tiers. Not any actual side by side performance, it makes sense to me that the full carbon handle would have a sensitivity edge. I’m not denying they’re a great value but I have a hard time picturing them edging out a G...

Re: JDM Shimano vs USDM Gloomis Comparisons
Really appreciate the Ultima comparison. As much as I’m itching to get that 172H I’m going to need to go elsewhere to fill a heavy cover role. I have a feeling I’m going to explore the Glorious range for a heavy cover rod. If they’re somewhere between the GLX to NRX spectrum I think they’ll offer so...

Re: JDM Shimano vs USDM Gloomis Comparisons
How’s the power/action compare on the 904C vs 172H? I’ve looked at that Ultima so many times since it came out but just feel like it’s going to end up being more medium-heavy than I’m hoping for in a heavy cover rod. I’m also surprised by the Adrena vs Glorious feedback since the Glorious is clearly...

Re: JDM Shimano vs USDM Gloomis Comparisons
Also the reason I point out the Poison Glorious 176XXH-SB is because it’s listed as 147 grams and the Conquest 905C is 151 grams. Seems to defy belief that that’s even possible!

Re: JDM Shimano vs USDM Gloomis Comparisons
Agreed, Ultima seems higher regarded than Conquest in my searching. Wish they had more models though. I’m not saying the Glorious and GLX are identical blanks but seem to be in the same ballpark of cost/quality based on their price tiers. I’m not sure I’ve seen any argument they’re similar to NRX, u...

JDM Shimano vs USDM Gloomis Comparisons
Haven’t been able to find many direct comparisons across the Shimano range of rods vs Gloomis offerings. Mostly regarding the quality of the blanks and components, NOT looking to get into a debate about styling and/or build quality. I’ve seen some component details here and there on specific lines b...

Balances beautifully, that’s only an 8oz reel.

Re: JDM bottom contact rod
Highly recommend looking at the Gunslinger if you want something for baits mostly in that 3/8-1/2 oz range. Great fit for those and that’s on the lighter end of the Rapid Gunner for sure. I think these EG models are more sensitive than NRX, certainly no worse in my hands. They balance way better, ha...

Re: JDM bottom contact rod
I mentioned Evergreen in the first reply. I’d consider the Rapid Gunner the top bottom contact option from Evergreen. Action-wise the Rapid Gunner is an extra-fast and the Super Stallion is more medium-fast to fast. The power of both rods and ratings are almost identical but the choice between those...
