Re: Finesse Shaky Heads?
I make a 1/16oz and a 1/8oz shaky head with both a size #1 and a 1/0 light wire flat eye hook. The screw lock I use is a small diameter so you can use pretty thin worms on it.

Re: Storm Arachi Glide discontinued?
That isn't surprising in the least. First of all you aren't going to lose many of them so anglers don't have to keep replacing them. Then you look at the bait itself, how many are sold north of the Mason Dixon Line?

Re: Everything SpinnerbaiT!!
It isn't as much the body of water as it is the conditions. Water clarity and sky conditions will dictate blade type more than baitfish or cover will. A lot of variables but a few general things to help that you can add to trial and error. Calm water, no wind during bright sunny skies is a condition...

Re: Brian Schmidt Bait's Version of the RPO : The Hybrid Football Jig
The first sentence you wrote on your impressions should be corrected. You said, "Football jigs are characterized by big beefy hooks", you should have started that sentence with "most" rather than a blanket statement. I guess making jigs for more than 20 years makes me a little OCD about them but it ...

Re: Spinner/Chatter/Swimjig vs Squarebill
All of those options are good search baits. I also don't think you can look at your tackle selection and wonder if there should be something else you can throw. The type of angler you are you need to keep your selection narrowed down and focus on different ways to fish each bait. To know which one t...

Re: Hair jig help
I fish hair jigs like you fish a fly: no contact with the bottom. I use marabout mostly with a 1/8 oz head. I drift them over fish with almost no movement using the wind or the current. I use a 7 1/2 feet spinning rod (light) 10 pound braid with a long leader. I fish them in 3 to 6 feet of water (v...

Re: Hair jig help
slow is the way to go most of the time. A lot depends on conditions and then trial and error. For example, when fishing a small bucktail jig the way I'm using it will be different depending on water temp and weather. If the water is in the low to mid 40s and the weather is stable, a slow drag and oc...

Re: Hair jig help
It depends on what you mean by "hair jigs". I do a lot of hair jig fishing but 95% is cold water smallmouth in winter and early spring. I use jigs from 1/16oz up to 1/4oz mostly, there are some exceptions like warm water presentation but that is another discussion. If you are looking at something li...
Re: Ned Rod
892 glx, but i dont go lower than 3/16 You fishing a jig worm or shaky head, Ned rig doesn't go past 1/8oz. I have some 1/6oz ZMan Finesse TRD Ned heads, so it does go past 1/8oz, but not much further. If you noticed Z-Man calls them a "Shroomz" head, not a Ned head. In-Fisherman had a write up on ...

Re: Vision 110 Jr hook upgrade(?)
10# line is way too heavy. They were designed to be fished on spinning gear with 6# line, that is why so many have issues with the hooks. Drop down to 6# or 8# line with a ML rod and you'll be amazed at the performance. The only problem is you'll have to play the fish out a little bit but you'll lan...

How long has Berkley sat on that design? Doomsday has been around for several years now.

Re: (Swim) Jig confusion
There are a few differences between a swim jig and a casting jig. You mentioned most of those with the Northern style jig fished by Tom Monsoor but there is an element that makes it swim. The 30 degree line tie, it keeps the jig tracking straight and helps coming through cover as your line comes off...

Re: Ned Rod
I have a discontinue Loomis Bronzeback 811s and it is PERFECT for a ned rig!!! Fast enough action to pop a small jig head free from weeds but forgiving enough that you aren't overpowering the presentation itself. I tried a 782 IMX and it was a little too stiff for the 1/16oz head so look for a Loomi...
