Re: economy blanks?
Especially for your first rod...don't use a high end blank. You'll learn right away what you should have done to make it a better build and then the rod will sit because of your butcher job on it. I don't even pick up my first couple of rods now. I still have them, but I rarely use them. They weren...

Re: Swimbait Blank RDA Data
Just wanted to see if anyone out there had, and would be willing to share, RDA data on two blanks. I'm planning on building a new personal swimbait rod and am primarily interested in two blanks. Ive been researching possibilities for a while now, and am planning on placing an order within the next ...

Re: newbie question about rod building equipment
I agree with Matt, you can get away with common tools if you are so inclined. I do like my reamers though, if there was one specialty tool I could keep and get rid of the rest it would be reamers.

Re: Kistler help
If that's an ebay kistler blank, don't waste your money on decaling it until you fish the piss out of it to make sure it won't break. In my early days, I built 5 of them, 4 are broken and none were abused. Learned my lesson about first quality blanks.

Re: Phenix Recons
I contacted Phenix about their availability, and they said one of their vendors could place an order and they would send them, they included the vendor I asked about(mudhole) in on the email and I put the order in with them. The 714 is going back to Phenix as a blem, I hope that this time that I'm n...

Re: Phenix Recons
Sorry Koldkut, that's actually a mistake from our factory. The next set will not have the screen printing on them. Thats kinda what took so long to start shipping the Recon blanks! We were going to send them back, but the demand for them was so high, and most shops that were waiting for them said t...

Phenix Recons
I don't have a pic to post up yet, but I received 3 Recons yesterday, two PHX-C715H and one PHX-C714MH. The "decaling" is about 14" from the butt of the rod, pretty extensive at that. I will get a pic up later. What struck me as odd was when I measured blank weights. PHX-C714MH - 54 grams PHX-C715H ...

Re: know anything about Batson RX Popping Blanks?
You should call Batson and have them measure the blank at 12", then order the next smaller size ECS seat so that you can ream to fit exactly where you want it.

Re: Recon C715 blank
Hey guys, I am having a custom rod built with a Phenix Recon C715 blank. I am planning on throwing heavy jigs and big plastics on it. I am wondering how good these blanks are sensitivity wise? Will I be pleased with my decision to go with this blank? I should have that very blank in hand next week,...

Dragon1, I don't think anything is out of the techs for a XMG50 LP844. I have yet to find its equal, but I am going to try an MHX HM soon.dragon1 wrote:I also think that the techs you mention are right in the wheel house of the XMG50 LP844.

Re: Pheonix Recon blank vs. HM-MHX
From what I gather, the Recon blanks were scheduled to arrive to Phenix yesterday, I'm waiting to hear word from Mudhole as to when they have them in hand so I can order one. As for a blank recommendation, I have not handled a MHX-HM or a recon, but from the sounds of it, a Lamiglas XMG50 LP844 woul...
