Re: Best use for TDZ 105H
No problem shorebound. I was attracted to a Loomis IMX blank but cutting the blank in 2 would void the warranty. We then looked at Batsons, Premiers, Diamondbacks. Finally settled on this blank: Cabela's XML GS705, 2 piece, extra fast, MH, 8-20lb. rating, 3/8 - 1 oz. I admit I wanted the Loomis (bra...

Re: Best use for TDZ 105H
Now, if only I can find a good TWO-PIECE rod to pair with it I'm waiting for the specs of the new Avids. I am hoping St. Croix will surprise me. Funny you should say that. I looked and looked for a good 2 piece 7 ft jig/worm rod with a fast action. Gave up so after some discussions and research by ...

Re: Calcutta 50
My Conquest 51 is one of my favourites. I upgraded the bearings and use it for pitching plastics, small spinnerbaits and cranks. Like Zenbassr stated it does make an excellent pack reel.

Re: Question for people with top end stuff (steez/MB/GC/etc)
reelblues: It's yours. Given your posts, I believe this forum is as special to you as it is to me. The equipment I've bought since joining is very good, and I will buy more, but I'm aware that I'm not a "heavy hitter" in fishing prowess or tackle ownership. But I am having fun. You clearly have alre...

American productivity
Because of what I do for a living, I keep in touch with this stuff. I do sometimes wonder if the American middle class is benefitting from these gains. Here in Canada, the financial "clout" of the middle class is shrinking and June 15 or something like that is the first "tax free" day. In other word...

Re: Question for people with top end stuff (steez/MB/GC/etc)
Original guy who brought this up said he doesn’t "abuse" his rods by throwing heavier lures. That pretty funny to anyone who has ever pulled big fish. If that’s the case in his fishing regiment then it shows me how much he babies his gear and equally how much fish he catches (or doesn’t). I guess I...

Re: Question for people with top end stuff (steez/MB/GC/etc)
Marc: Actually I did snap cast heavy muskie lures for a number of years, though I bet the definition of "snap" is an issue here. I'm talking about loading the rod with an aggressive back cast. Didn't get to my wrists but did my shoulders and chest completely in after a few hours. Can't find them onl...

If you follow that logic through, you could just use a real broom stick and lob the baits out. Or better yet, use an 8 ft piece of 2X4, 80 lb braid, and forget the necessity of a rod at all.I don't think anyone is going to snap cast a 3oz. b8 (unless they have Popeye wrists).

Re: Question for people with top end stuff (steez/MB/GC/etc)
Well nobody said anything about exceeding rated values, but if you think you are somehow hurting a rod by throwing a 1oz lure on a 3/4oz max rated rod Maybe they should rate the maximum size fish you can catch on a rod too, so if you get a big one just cut the line to save the rod! You probably won...

Re: Question for people with top end stuff (steez/MB/GC/etc)
Peace reelblues. :) Sometimes I can't remember what I said when. But that one I did because of the amount of tackle I see people on this site buying. Given my "handle" I was thinking about using this one for my signature: Need one. Want ten. You could certainly say: Need one, BOUGHT ten. 8-) My 'buy...

Life exectancy of Bilge pumps
The bilge pump in my boat is 11 years old. It still works and does not leak but I'm wondering how long do the seals in these pumps hold. Anybody know? Thanks. V. R.

Can't catch up, Can't keep up, Can't tell my wife" Actually I said that. But I'm flattered that you remember my words. It IS the message, not the messenger, right? :) After all I was talking about humility. Edit: I decided that the comment was so true about my experience with Tackletour that ...

Re: Another new custom built
That rod is a beauty and I particularly like the understated but elegant color scheme.
