i would think so, because you won't have a ton of line on there and it might start to slip if you went straight braid. that and the spool itself is pretty slick already.

love my pflueger spinning reels. the supreme is a great reel for the money.

i prefer the shorter rods so my experience is with the 853 and it is a thing of beauty for the bottom contact techniques
