Cal, I use that rod for punching. It has plenty of hook setting power, and I can winch them up and onto the mat so I can ski them across the top, but it also keeps the fish pegged when I have to go in to get one out of those deep primrose mats. I've found that weight is much less of an issue for me, too, as I "mature". But I have fished so many heavier reels in the past that anything below 8 oz. feels light, anyway. I find having a balanced rod makes the reel weight issue go away. I don't even notice what color scheme the reel ha...
