Re: Alternatives to my rod

The handle is detachable. I like that. I like that a lot. This kind of rod has become my preferred confirgutation. I have no way of knowing if it affects sensitivity. But, some of my most sensitive rods came like this from the maker. I have to imagine that sensitivity was not compromised to achieve...

Re: Alternatives to my rod

I have, indeed, but would need to find a blank, maker, etc. The Xfast part isn't a big deal and I'm trying to avoid dropping 4 bills on it, but if need be. The Destroyers are gorgeous and would work well, but damn they're pricey. The Steez Liberator, I've never seen. I'll have to check it out. Wasn...

Hey Andy, have you considered a custom rod? Gonna send the screw tomorrow, btw. Hey Andy:

Sure someone here can help you out. Maybe post a bit more about the rod you’re using. I for one have no experience with the model you’re refering to so can’t offer much advice for a good alternative.
It's a 6'3 M Xfast Loomis 10-17, 3/8-1/2 rating.

Re: Alternatives to my rod

I used to think I should only use rods over 7', the longer the better, weight and balance be damned. I'm 6' tall and now all my favorite sticks range from 6'4" to 6'10". Most of the extra length in the 7 footers I use most is in the handle. I've found that especially for jerkbaits, poppers, walking...

Re: Alternatives to my rod

I don’t know if I can help you or not, but can you explain why you’re anxious to stick with such a short rod? Is it because it’s easier to use in the yak? 6’3 is extremely short by current standards, and I’ve found no drawbacks to longer rods in terms of working even topwaters or jerkbaits (even in...

Strike King Rocket Shad
Length /height the 1/4,3/8,1/2 Rocket Shads are smaller than the 3/16 Pond Magic.
May check into them. When wading, I often use a single rod so I'm carrying baits in my pocket and what not, smaller is good. Thanks for the heads up on some of these guys.

Re: Who regularly throws small 3/16-1/4 spinnerbaits?

I often do. I love a 1/4oz in shallow water early in the year. I need to grab a couple Super Eruption Jr and Cambios in 1/4 and I'm happy.

Favorite small spinnerbait

I'm not talking a 1/4oz standard frame bait. I'm talking Pond Magic, Mini King, etc. I do a lot of wading in small creeks around Kansas City and even Ozark creeks you can't really float, even in good water. I found the Pond Magic to be good, but the little willow blades seem to foul really easily. I...

Re: Z Man Chatterbait Micro trailer?

I'm curious if something like a 3" Grub may work. It wouldn't offer much in the way of buoyancy. But should give some tail action.

Re: Favorite dock rig on spinning rod

Favorite? Now, let's not get carried away. I often use an RI Little Dipper on an Owner 1/8 Twistlock or a Flick Shake on a weedless 1/16 wacky hook or a soft stick bait weightless T-Rigged...all of these slay at the right time, but honestly, as long as they're biting, I'll take all of the above.
