Rod balancing kits do exist, so i could make the butt of the rod just a little bit fatter in exchange for better balance.

I did not take the worm shaft apart. It was a simple clean and grease job for the gears. You're right that it isn't the x-ship bearing. I'm a big fan of the knobs on the Chronarch and Metanium and have ordered a few sets to replace the knobs on my Core and Curados. They're the perfect size to me and I've never found my grip slipping under wet conditions.

Honestly I've had great success with Eagle Claw's 1/0 O'Shaughnessy hooks fitted with a small piece of aquarium tubing on the eye. Total of $5 and some change gets me something like 25 trailer hooks. I know TT's all about high-end gear but if it works, it works
