Re: THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS!!!
That is a very nice collection Rise. Guys with collections like that often collect more than one type of thing. I'm interested to know if you collect anything non-fishing related because I bet is an impressive collection.

Re: Anyone else suffer new fluorocarbon problems last year?
The only time fluoro has given me a fit in regards to breaking is when I had a cracked guide insert that I wasnt aware of. I check my line often, especially on bottom bouncing techniques. It's got better abrasion resistance then nylon but surely isn't knick proof. It seems like most of the problems...

Re: Anyone else suffer new fluorocarbon problems last year?
I'll check the link, but having fished fluoro for years...I know it wasn't bad knots, as I only tie san diego jam, double san diego jam, and that goofy shaw grigsby knot...which all worked in the past, and on big fish (and I always lube the knot and never kink it). IDK, I know one local pro was hav...

Re: Anyone else suffer new fluorocarbon problems last year?
I'm not a big believer in bad spools of line. I tend to think that it is user error with fluoro because it doesn't degrade nearly as bad as mono. One of my team tournament partners from the past was an old Maxima sponsored pro that fished a lot of Maxima fluoro and he would break off at the knot and...

Re: MHX High-Mod Gen 2
I picked up one but haven't built it into a rod yet, I just finished my hm-sj781 tonight so at least I'll have a Gen 1 to compare to. Just speaking in regards to the 781 I built it for weightless roboworms and casting in the yard a 4" with gamma hook I can cast about 30 ft more then my Gen 2 cumara...

Re: Best all around Daiwa Casting Reel ?
The lighter spools tend to cast lighter baits better and the heavier spools tend to cast the heavy baits better. Each has its strengths. A lot of people on here have been talking up the SV spools as the best all around option, but I don't own one yet to verify it and there is a lot of murmur about t...

Re: most silent braided line
Smackdown is very silent, like the other coated braids. Be careful though, because it is very small in diameter and is said to break at the stated rating. I've been fishing the 10lb. Smackdown on my vertical dropshot set-up and it often breaks before my 7lb. Sniper leader. It is so limp that it als...

Re: zillion spool option?
I'm not amazed with the 100M spool either. It does cast the smaller baits slightly better, pitch slightly better, and the V gets covered up if you use braid backing, but it's a little harder to control. The stock Zillion spool is very consistent when you use plenty of braid backing to save weight an...

Re: Any advice: smallmouth fishing near Redlands,CA
You can fish any lake in March in SoCal and you are likely to see a double digit fish that you may never see in KS. This is the land of the giants, at least that is what the magazines like to say. Diamond Valley is good that time of year and we often catch limits over 30lbs, but the 10+ pound fish a...

Re: about daiwa's crbb color
All of my Zillions, Fuegos, Sols, TDXs and Type -R Tatula have been USDM with all bearings being silver including the CRBBs from what I can remember. My USDM 50th Anniversary Zillion is the only reel with black bearings. The spool and levelwind bearings are black with silver shields like you said. I...

Re: Any advice: smallmouth fishing near Redlands,CA
Big Bear will probably be frozen or too cold in March. It's hit and miss. Diamond Valley Lake is about 40 minutes from Redlands and it has a few protected smallmouth. My buddy caught one close to four on Wednesday, which is the biggest one that I have heard of in DVL, but they are fairly rare and yo...

Re: Short Rods.
I've got four 6' custom Phenix rods from the late 80's. The two spinning rods still see a lot of trout action in the west. The 6' UL is always in the bottom of my rod locker in case I want to mess around with some of the big stocker trout I see when I am throwing swimbaits. I caught rainbows up to s...

Re: New Trout rig. 4 me
We do this all the time in WA fishing for trout in lakes varying the leader length according the fish depth. The weight of the sinker can also greatly vary depending on desired casting distance, sensitivity, etc.. You can also use this general concept to create some other unique fishing techniques ...

Re: Double Senko Rig?
The double fluke rig is something that you can work fast and the flukes glide erratically when you give them slack. The senko doesn't glide as much and is most effective when allowed to fall freely on a longer slack line. Did the double senko rig work against each senko taking some of the subtle act...
