Re: Frog perfection
I still haven't found a hollow body frog I like better than the Reaction Innovations Swamp Donkey. The Megabass Big Gabot has its place for sure, but if I'm throwing a hollow body, my confidence bait is the SD! Good to have options for sure! The Swamp Donkey colors are good. There are a lot of guys...

Re: What’s the craziest topwater blowup you’ve had?
I've had fish eat my lure in mid air three times. Once off of a tule, and also once off of a bush. The best strike was when I watched a fish in ultra clear water at night shark the surface following a black jig that had been casted to the back of a pocket underneath a floodlight. The fish caught the...

Re: Mountain biking
IMG_0106.jpg Our mountain biking in the Coachella Valley is straight up and down on chunky decomposed granite and rocks. Most trails gain 500 feet of elevation per mile. So you must be very fit and have a very light and low-geared full suspension bike (25 lbs. or less). The modern overweight and ov...

Re: Vibrating Jig Question
Take it from someone that is a skirted bait specialist with over 4 decades of experience making and throwing skirted baits, the amount of strands can make a difference, but it's usually several attributes of the lure that make a lure effective where you are throwing it. Thinner skirts tend to be bet...

Re: new rod
If it's really a MH rod, it would be better for 30-50 pound braid and smaller frogs. I wouldn't go matt fishing with a true MH rod. I am currently using that same reel on my heavy frog rod right now.

Re: Daiwa Zillion G 1000 Gear Longevity
Engaging the gears on a cast will cause the buzzing. As has been said, bad bearings and worn parts with do it also. The OG Zillion gears spoiled us for those of us that use that platform. It's good to hear that the Daiwa aluminum gears are holding up. I'm gonna try a reel with them. Almost all Shim...

Keep at it and you will see big fitness gains. I successfully raced cross country mountain bikes for several years in the late 90's at the top amateur regional level in SoCal. I have won quite a few regional bass tournaments also. There are a lot of us out there that do both. Check out mtbr.com and...

Re: Dedicated Rods
I have several dozen custom rods. I went down the rabbit hole of trying to find the perfect rod for each technique, but there are so many techniques today that this really isn't even possible anymore. Even my DD cranks rods get used for other techniques. Even the biggest boat can't hold all of these...

Re: Ygk G-soul Upgrade vs Ss112
I almost never break off. I had four in one night with the G-Soul. I switched knots to no avail. I don't think it liked being fished around boulders and rough concrete. I have never had issues with other braids though. There are several variables that come into play. Maybe the line had microscopic ...

Re: Fun Evenings Throwing Topwater
Great fish! I fished a carp hatchery when I was about 14 in 1984 that also had bass in it. I went 31 straight with a Devil's Horse one evening before I caught all of the bass in that tiny lake. They were all stunted and only about 13 inches each. I have gone 31 for 32 casts with a Michael (Japanese ...

Re: It's time for a 5" fluke rod (casting rod)
If you are casting to shoreline targets where you need to pull fish away from cover or structure, go with a heavier fluke-style bait like a D-Shad or a Shiver Glide. You will be able to use heavier tackle like a M or MH rod with the heavier fluke style baits. You are stuck using a ML or lighter rods...

Are China and Japan getting parts out in a reasonable amount of time again?
I need to do Plat order from Japan, and maybe get a few Ray's spools from China. Are you guys getting parts in an acceptable amount of time from these countries to the U.S.?
