Trout Starter Set

My trout fishing starter set is coming together. Lefty Conquest BFS is obviously held up, but the CT SV w/KTF should fill in fine as long as the purple and green contrast doesnt scare away the fish. I bought some standard minnows and spoons (brown wallet with wool) and then went on a bender on YJP p...

Re: Choose a rod brand

I'm going full custom before I drop big $ on a factory-built rod. The only thing I've worried about with full custom is their access proprietary technology and blanks that some of the higher end manufactures have or make themselves. With that said, I am looking to have a custom mountain stream rod ...

Re: 19 Antares for stream trout?

I noticed that an angler from Hitotoki works, maker of grips and blanks for modular stream rod assemblies, uses 19 Antares in combination with a very light glass rod for stream fishing with small sinking minnows. My knowledge of baitcasting and BFS is limited, so I wanted to ask if this kind of fis...

Re: Tulala Monstruo 71

Here's a couple of teaser pictures of the new Tulala Monstruo 71BTX Bespoke Edition Rod that finally showed up at doorstep today after spending many weeks in US Customs "pending" clearance and fees assessment. That is awesome, that thing looks like it was meant for business. It's cool that backlash...

Re: Choose a rod brand

If I lost everything, the Fenwick Aces Lineup is what I would be looking at. Props to Fenwick, I have a 7'4 Light GP Techno (think these were the predecessors to Aces) and it is a superb rod. Just wish I had of gotten the ML version. The 7'4L would probobly be perfect for mid stream trout fishing w...

I've been very happy with Irod for years.
Sorry for leaving that one off. I hear really good things about Irod.

Re: Choose a rod brand

Probably Shimano but Megabass rods are cooler and this is hypothetical. If I lost everything and had to start over Megabass would get expensive quick. I think this certainly should be viewed as hypothetical. I have really enjoyed trying so many high end rods over the last few years. With that said,...

Re: Small/ medium swimbait rod and reel

At the top tier, If I am looking for a do it all between 7-28 grams, I would be looking at the Antares A70 or a Steez variation. I have both and if I had to pick one, it would be the Antares A70. I almost exlusivly use Varivas Monster Si-X Vamos PE2 or 3 with a floro leader. Seeing that you like th...

Re: Help me with some inspiration for an Shimano Antares DC 16!

Antares is a pretty elegant reel out of the box. Put her in a nice black dress, give her a nice stick and a big handle she is good to go.

Re: Replacement hooks for BSF minnow baits

I use Owner S-55M (mostly the barbless version, SBL-55M) and Vanfook DRS-40F in size 8 – excellent fit for those 50 mm trout minnows. I prefer the Vanfook with their soft, braided loops. I'll follow that question up with what size split rings do you use in the same scenario. I need to order some an...

Re: Conquest BFS 2023

A good article on the differences of the 17 and 23. Scrounged from our friendly neighborhood reel tester.

Make a big a aluminum reel for throwing expensive glide baits with braid. Those like to catch the wind and slow producing line fluff.
Based on the info on Kickstart, the reel is 300 grams. At that weight, I hope it would be able to throw a big glide.
