Re: 852c By any other name?
When I'm fishing on one of the rivers for smallies, my nrx 852c/alphas sv is my main combo. I don't use spinning gear except for drop shots so the 852 does everything spinning gear related. When I'm on weedy lakes, it doesn't get used much. I'm on rivers a lot though.

Re: SS SV 105 Difference
The ss sv has a stronger braking profile so the alphas sv will blow it away casting.

Re: 200 to spend on one rod.
I second the hammer rod recommendation. I don't have one but they get great reviews here and the tapers are supposed to be super versatile.

Unless you have your heart set on another reel, I'd slap your sv103 on it and be done with it.

Re: Metanium mgl vs chronarch mgl thread
I wish they just used brass in the met mgl because the weight savings is hardly worth it IMO. Admittedly I haven't had any issues yet, but brass gears should make it smoother and more durable. Has anyone had to replace their met gears?

Re: SV105 or Steez 103
Search ray's studio daiwa spools on eBay. They run about $60 shipped. They transform the reel into BFS machines.gailt wrote:Are there any DIY spools you recommend, thanksmasterbass wrote:A steez 103 with a diy spool would also work really well.

Re: SV105 or Steez 103
The r+ spool in the steez 103 is very finicky. The braking profile makes it wild. I'd definitely look at an alphas sv or sv105. The sv105 has 2 more bearings (knobs?)

I always had trouble with 1/8-3/16 on my shimano 50. A diy spool would make all the difference in the world.

Re: Best Applications for Shimano 12 Exsence DC 8:1 & Evergreen rod to match
I have my exsence dc on a xx orochi perfect pitch and I use it for frogs and jigs. As far as the T3 SV, people either love the T3 platform or not. I personally really like my T3 MX. The original retail price was ridiculous, but the used market on them today is equally ridiculous. IMO, one of the bes...
