Re: NRX Guide Wraps
I noticed the wraps on the NRX fly rods at a booth at ISE in Denver and those wraps were worse than the ones pictured, and those fly rods cost more than the casting and spinning rods. While there is nothing technically wrong with the wraps, nothing like that would leave my shop(unless it was one of ...

Re: Microguides and heavy stuff?
I built exactly what you are building(Phenix Ultra MBX 700HM ti-sic micros), it was in the show and tell section before the forum had a severe crash. I used all 3.5 Ti-sic micros, stripper at 0, first bumper 4" ahead at 60, second bumper 4" ahead of the first at 120, then the next guide at 180, usua...

Re: Spiral or Straight Guide Set Up
I always do a slow spiral, and I static test all my guide placements. The stripper guide is set at negative degrees just to make sure the line comes down the centerline of the blank, if it comes off the side like your setup has it, you may get slight line stacking to one side of the spool, nothing c...

Re: Spiral or Straight Guide Set Up
I only have one non-spiral wrapped baitcaster and it's just for demonstration, I don't fish it. All my other baitcasters are spiral wrapped, like Matt said, there is no downside. And for those that are skeptical, I'd challenge any of them to a blindfolded casting session where they are handed rods b...

Dang, you have a 4YO too? My son doesn't mess with any rods on dryers. But he does help wrap from time to time.

Re: My rod building station
I've got a round table to build on.....so I'm not far from where you are there. I do have to watch the epoxy drips my self or my wife can get a little cranky.

Re: crazy question?
The white 3m pads are great....throw a little heat at it, cut, peel the rest and I've used denatured alcohol and those white pads to get the remaining finish off, if it's absolutely necessary, a touch of acetone, but barely enough to get the job done.

Re: Guide Setups
I like 5, 4, 3.5----to the tip, titanium SiC micros. I have also built with all 3.5 micros.KyLakeLunker wrote:Does anyone have any suggestions for a spiral wrapped casting setup w/low profile reel as to what size guides to use?

Re: Holy cow batman!!!
What's the blank weigh before parts Vince? I built a 700MH Phenix that came in at that weight for Boondock, I don't think he has re-posted the pics since the forum crash though.

Re: Just a Heads up.. Mudhole
Same thing here 2 years ago when I started, they do have a nice picture of a elmers cork filler, and that's what I expected when I ordered. So after I got my golden oak filler, I went to lowes to look for cork filler....I don't even use the stuff anymore to be honest, I feel that by doing that I'm h...
