Re: which curado 200i?

one more question about the curado: how often are you guys having to put a film of oil on the raceway to prevent the squealing noise that people talk about? -Hulk This squealing noise is why I sold all but 1 of my Curado i series reels... I hated it. I still have one of these Curados and I keep mes...

Re: Dobyn's Fury vs. 13 Fishing Omen 2 Casting

so guys - I pulled the trigger on the fury..I must say I give it a slight edge on the omen 2 casting rods. I like the reel seat, split grip, and smaller diameter blank. thanks for all help, think I will go with Dobyns in the future. What model did you end up going with? I got my two Furys out on th...

Re: New Curado 70

Looks like a fantastic reel. Though if it makes that same squealing noise on the cast that the 200i makes, I won't be owning any of them. If they fix that noise issue, I may own 5 of these.

Re: Daiwa Tatula 7'2"MHRB or 7'2"HFB

I owned the 7'2" HFB for a while before it broke on me :x But before that, I really liked the rod a whole lot for frogs and heavier texas rigs/jigs. The rod was really light and balanced but also very powerful as well. To your question, I wouldn't recommend this rod for reaction baits, it's just too...

Day after Christmas Trip Report

Got a chance to get out on the water with Dad yesterday, it was much needed for both of us. He had a bypass heart surgery a couple of months ago and is just now feeling well enough to get back out and it had been 4 or 5 weeks since I had been out myself. So it was great to spend some time with Dad o...

Re: DX703 or DX704?

I agree with getting the 704. That would be the perfect rod for that technique and that size jig in my opinion. I'd get the 744 if I was going to be doing more just straight pitching as I prefer a little bit longer rod for that, but the little bit shorter 7'0" will probably help you skip the bait a ...

Re: Best Frog rod

Daiwa Tatula 7'2" H, this rod is light and very well balanced, and also packs a very nice punch on a hookset. It has plenty of power. That rod and a Dobyns 735 are the two I use for frogs and love them both, but if I had to choose just one, it'd be the Tatula. TAT721HFB H F 7'2" 12 - 25 3/8 - 1.5 ht...

Re: Which 50-sized Shimano?

Scorp 1000XT is one of my favorite reels that I've ever put in my hands, especially for the $. It's in the process of getting a custom paint job at the moment 8-) I've basically used mine over the years for most of the smaller baits that I throw, like 1/4 oz spinnerbaits, small poppers, weightless p...

Re: Megabass Levante

Can you comment further on what a "regular taper" feels like with Megabass rods? I haven't ever owned one and almost always steer away from rods with a more "moderate" tip unless I'm using it for cranks, jerkbaits, or treble hook topwaters. I find it odd that their "spinnerbait special" rod is a mod...

Re: Best Casting Reel for Lite Crankbaits?

One of my favorite reels of all time....Scorpion 1000XT. Brass gears make for smooth cranking, shallow spool makes it good for lighter baits like you mentioned, and the reel palms great.

Re: crankin reel

I used to be pretty much all Shimano with my reels, but in recent years, I've switched over to where I now have a lot of 2 different reels...Lews Tournament Lites and Tatulas! These reels are impressive for the $$ for sure. If you were going to go with a faster gear ratio reel, the Tourney Lite come...

Re: Dobyn's Fury vs. 13 Fishing Omen 2 Casting

My 733 and 735 Furys came in yesterday and while I can't say that I've had them on the water and really put them through the paces yet, I can say that my initial impressions are that these rods are a steal at the price point. The 735 feels like it will be great for my heavy duty work and the 733 rea...
