I own 852 and 854 NRX rods and one has been replaced due to guide failure. I have 2 Z-bone custom Kistler rods and like them better.

Re: What's with all the $500 rods?
When/if you amortize the rod costs on a per fishing trip basis the cost per rod becomes insignicant when compared with lures, gasoline, boat, travele, lodging, meals, etc... costs. Buy what will assist you in being/becoming a better fisherman.

Re: Brake settings for chronarchs/cores
I use smoke colored brake blocks on my Core 50mg7's. Two opposed blocks out for non windy conditions. One block out for wind at back condition. Cross winds treated as non wind conditions. Use fluoro leaders with small Albright knot and 6mm micro guides on Z-bone rods to accomodate the leader and kno...

Re: Are micro guides going away?
I recently received a 3MH Z-bone custom from Kistler with requested 6mm Fuji micro titamium frame silicon carbide eye guides. The 20lb Sufix braid and 15-20lb fluorocarbon leaders pass through the knots with no apparent problems. I look at this rod as a middle of the road micro guide rod. I have tri...

Re: Boca Bearing problem on shimano reel
I use 3Mm brake cleaner, essentially xylene, from my local auto parts store. I soak the bearings for and hour outdoors in a jar with loosely tight lid. I then remove the bearings and let them dry for 30 min or so. I use an ice pick to hold the bearings while spinning them to see if they need further ...

Re: Chronarch 50mg vs. Core 50mg
I have 4 each of the Core50mg7 reels and Chronarch50mg7 reels. With equivalent bearings they both cast great. The Core50 has a lighter spool which allows lighter weights to be more easily cast and the surface coating is more serviceable on the Core50.

Re: Anyone using Sunline Mono?
Sunline Super Natural clear 12 lb gets the job done for inshore saltwater use on speckled trout and redfish on Core50mg7's and Z-bone rods.

Re: what's your guys favorite walk the dog bait?
In saltwater, when the grass gets bad in the summer months, we use Spook Jrs with single 2/0 or 3/0 Gamakatsu Live Bait hooks with 2 rings in series to allow the hooks to deploy correctly. The front hook point faces the lure head and the rear hook point faces just the opposite so the hook points cat...

Has anybody thrown a full sized Super Spook with an LE 3 MH 7ft rod? Is it enough rod or do you need the LE 4 H?

You can solve the purchasing urge by using your wife's credit card. You will likely be cured in one use, if you are compelled enough to use it once.
