I use mono to tie to the spool about 12-18 inches long. The mono is chosen to protect the spool and rod when I am spooled by a large fish.

On mine I have performed the carbontex drag upgrade and have founf no noticeable improvement over the stock OEM bearings with orange seal bearings. I use the OEM bearings.

Re: Recoil guides
Recoil guides is a generic style. I have heavy wire ones on a Loomis BCR802 rod and light wire ones on 2 NRX rods. One NRX 854 rod is currently being replaced as the 2 of the light wire guides have broken off rings and 2 light wire guides have had the wires on the guide ring break and protrude outwa...

Re: Kistler Micros??
The off-the-shelf Z-bone Kistler rods typically use 4.5mm Fuji micro guides.
Kistler is ~50 miles from me and I am working on 2 new made-to-order 7 ft Z-bone rods and the final guide setup remains is the last step to firm up.

Would be interested in how many people are using modified Albright leader knots with the 4-4.5 mm micro guides.

Re: Sunglasses with yellow lenses
Check Cabela's for yellow lenses.
Yellow lenses are used in shooting sports for cloudy days or low light conditions. I used them many years for skeet shooting. Their use in bright sunlight will nearly blind you.

Re: Core 100MG spool capacity vs. Metanium Mg
The Japanese lines conform to specified line diameters for most of their products. So they will get more yards/meters of the JDM and Sunline USA lines on the reel spools when compared to US line diameters.

Re: NRX 852 sweet spot...
My experience with my NRX852C has been to get distance I need to get the weight greater than 1/4 oz using a Core 50 with 20lb Sufix braid, 12lb Sniper, and 12LB Super Natural. With 3/8 oz (scale weights) I can get a real distance with a 8-10mph wind at my back while wading or drift fishing. Casting ...

Re: Baitcasting 1/4 Lures
The 5 inch Bass Assassin weighs 7 gr or 1/4 oz without any weight and most of the jig heads weigh more than their nameplate value. The Core 50 with 12 lb Sunline Super Natural Mono, 12 lb Sniper FC, or 20 lb Sufix braid handles the Bass Assassins and plain hook quite well on an NRX852 or MBR782 GLX....

Re: Shimano brake color combinations
I use the grey/clear brake collars on 3 Core 50 reels that use a variety of NRX rods and lure weights. On the light stuff - bass assassins with no weights are used with 1 or 2 weights out depending on the wind direction.
