Re: Please help!! should I get rid of my cores
Perfection is the enemy and costs more than good enough. Where cost is no barrier, you can always set the bar where you want to be on good enough.

It's time to retire/sell a rod when you justify to yourself to buy another one.

USPS cheapest? Not exactly when they delivered a Kistler rod in a heavy cardboard tube in 2 pieces and have refused to answer the claim for $150. Buyer beware.

Re: NRX Small Diameter Guides
I wade fish shallow water and use the longest cast I can throw for distance. I have learned that trimming the tag end on knots too closely results in failure. I mostly use Sufix 20lb braid and 14lb fluoro leaders 6-8ft long with a quickswivel to connect the lure. Also I retie every day and use a 6-8...

NRX Small Diameter Guides
Will changing these guides invalidate the rod warranty?
Has anybody changed out the small diameter knot catcher guides.
Yes, I tie small diameter knots with braid and fluoro, but fluoro and fluoro produces larger knots that are a hindrance in 1-2 ft of clear water.

Re: how to polish inside the pinion gear
I remove much of the cotton from the end of a Q tip and then dip it in Brasso for use in polishing the inside of the pinion gear. The Brasso removes oxidation from inside the tube. I use black dye on the spool shaft to see if there is any contact between the pinion gear and the spool shaft before re...

You may want to take a look at the Yucatan knot as it is similar and tests stronger.

Re: How Long Does Carbontex Last?
The CarbonTex washers typically do not stick to metal and as a result the initial force to have the drag slip is less than on other materials.

Re: The most durable batterie for a trolling motor
My experience - Lifeline AGM batteries for trolling motors have 5 year warranties and will last that long in trolling motor service if you run them down around a max of 60-70%.

You might want to check to see if any of the spacers are missing for the spool shaft ends.

Wiha screw driver sets on sale #26199. This set works great on Shimano low profile reels.

Re: Chronarch 50mg upgrades
FYI - All my 50mg's have BOCA orange seal bearings for spool bearings with the seals removed and Carbon Tex drag washers. Will change the weights to BNT3048's when available from Shimano. First BNT3048 shipment from August order lost in October shipment and reorder now promised for Feb 2012.

Re: Has anyone used spool tape?
FYI - I use 20 lb braid with 1-1.5 ft of 15 lb mono tied to the spool to keep the line from slipping and to provide breakoff capabilities. I use 3-4 wraps of thread tape before wrapping the mono.
