I have one as well and agree, it does not perform well for me at it's lower rating, which is iirc 3/16oz. It really starts to shine around 5/16 to 3/8oz lures.Dalleinf wrote:New reels to consider:
I have the Loomis CR721, which is very nice, but perhpaps a little too much of a rod for 1/8 oz (or less) IMO.

Re: Alphas Finesse Custom
That is a very nice looking reel. I have a Finesse Custom and I like it a lot, the stock spool is a little wild but it will throw light lures as well or better than my stock PX68. I keep thinking about dressing mine up, but I am growing to like the ugly little thing the way it is.

Re: Shorter rods and kayak fishing
Thanks! I have some hellgrammite plastics from Cabin Creek (i think) and they work great wacky rigged but are too thin to say t-rigged for long.

Re: Tsurinoya 2.1m UL
I am interested in that rod as well, but that reel seat looks pretty uncomfortable. I have a few spinning rod's with minimal (but less minimal that that one) reel seats and after a few hours they really cramp my hand, I think I unconsciously grip them too tight where I have found with a fuller seat ...

Re: Enthusiast 5'6'' casting rod?
It is not really "enthusiast" but I have a Loomis CR721 IMX that sounds like what you are looking for. It's lower limit is 3/16 and it really shines at like 5/16 to 3/8. It is decently stout, I never fished it around much cover but it will turn a 2lb bass without feeling like it is maxed out. Americ...

Re: (SUL) Super Ultra Light?
Yea, I have the 6' UL and there is no way, even if I had a reel that could do it, that my thumb up to casting lures that light. The UL will load well with a 1/16oz inline spinner, but my thumb is questionable even for that.

Re: Fast action L/UL Spinning rod for plastics/jigs?
Thanks for the info. The Volkey Spinning rods are still available on ebay, but I have not seen a reasonably priced casting one there in a while. A Super Trickster would be ideal, but I am unwilling to pay $300+ for a used rod and I have only even seen a single one offered for sale. I feel like the o...

Re: "Mag" BFS Casting Rod Input
They have a Recon Elite 68L rated the same as most 68L BFS JDM sticks but higher on the high end. I would think that would be the closest a JDM L BFS. Kinda interested in it now but the last thing I need is another BFS stick. I have a Recon2 68L that I use as my finesse casting rod. It is rated 1/1...

Re: "Mag" BFS Casting Rod Input
Are we considering this BFS :-k? Well, my personal definition is a casting rod that feels best with lures "lighter than a 4" senko", but to each their own. I also am very suspicious of rod ratings on both ends, so I would be more willing to take a chance on a rod if I can read a review of it first....

Please let us know how you like it! I am mildly on the prowl for a new BFS rod and have not found a lot of info about that one.BlaineFred wrote:I took the plunge and ordered the G-Rods Jerkbait rod from TW in their Labor Day sale.

Fast action L/UL Spinning rod for plastics/jigs?
Hi, I am looking around for a new spinning rod to use for plastics and small jigs. I have a Kuying Teton casting rod I use for UL spinner and cranks, but want a spinning rod that is fast enough to use for plastics. I had a MC Trapara spinning rod with a little 500 Okuma reel for a while but it was w...

Welp
Some free time appeared the week after next, so I had to act. Thanks for the imput guys, I am really confident I am gonna love this thing.
Now I gotta buy like a thousand roboworms I guess.

Thanks for the response. It is sounding more and more like I want the Drop Shot model. I am curious as hell about that Stinger Shot though, I would love to fish one for an afternoon.

Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!
I have the 6' UL casting model and it will already cast lighter lures then my thumb can control, I don't think I could do much with an even lighter casting rod. I picked it up on a bit of a whim but I like it enough that I want to pick up an Airy Red so it has a reel of it's own. Currently I swap a ...
