Re: Braid to Leader - what's your knot of choice?

It was human error. I was hurry to go to river to test my new lightest rod with smallest guides and it was definitely not to recommended to use strong FC leader in it, and my knot was bad that time, but I went to testing anyway. In first cast it stuck. After second cast I noticed that I don't have t...

I use uni to uni. Unless your guides are micros, it passes just fine. Also, I don't reel it onto the reel spool. My knot stops just outside the line guide.
Last time I let fluoro free end 1 mm too long (FG knot) and it stuck my top guide and rod got broken. Uni to uni is always at least that bad.

Re: Finesse/BFS reel for distance casting?

It looks great Please keep us updated with what you think about it for distance casting when you get a chance. I just purchased a gekkabijin and am worried I might need a deeper spool. Thanks Casting distance was very good in the range of 7 - 15 g. Also "SV style" brake action was flawless. (But ma...

Re: Braid to Leader - what's your knot of choice?

I have been using Seiko Knot Assist Tool for FG knot. But it twist severely braided, so lastly I have been made FG's without tool: fg_knot.jpg similar than hi does in his video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQmUN0L4F6c In my use FG knots assist tool does not make knot any faster, but now I'm thin...

Re: Shimano BFS oil

That Yamaha might work well for worm gear. But why it would be any better than worm gear grease?

Re: Your opinion about the Z2020 in 2023.

Yep, It's not light. I paired it this time with Daiwa Whisker Salmon 9' which isn't light either. But combination was really nice. (And I had super light combination also with me.) Have to say that Z2020 palms really nicely, but it's different palming than in smaller reels. But after rod is nicely b...

Re: Finesse/BFS reel for distance casting?

Sure! It's fascinating if they have fitted Boost like brake to Magforce SS! At least Magforce SS is different than current Magforces. Because it adjusts same time magnetic brake and also difference in inductor in vs inductor out. So obviously there's at least 3D like brake :D

Re: Fluoro on Gekkabijin

Ray's Deep Spool turned my GekkaBijin Air to perfect power finesse reel. Used it as my lightest set for seatrout. Casting sub 1/2 Oz inline spinners and chatterflies. Very good casting distance.

Fantstic reel for heavy seatrout fishing. Love that retrieve speed and high quality gears, and clicking drag. I used RCS shallow spool anyway.

Re: Your opinion about the Z2020 in 2023.

Great reel. Casts far. Magforce 3D is still cool. Fast retrieve. Good cranking power. Great brake, with clicking drag. COLD reel in a cold weather. Some says that paint chips easily. Mine has not chipped.

Re: Do magnetic braking systems wear out over time?

Obviously neodym magnets could become weaker...: https://totalelement.com/blogs/about-neodymium-magnets/will-neodymium-magnets-lose-their-strength-over-time Like all magnets, neodymium magnets will eventually lose their strength over time, but this process is slow and can take many years or decades.

Yes, that Ray's deep spool takes a lot of line despite of 28 mm diameter..

Re: Fluoro on Gekkabijin

Personally I would be very happy for excitement if I would hook fish which empties my GekkaBijin :D But I use braid. And I don't fish with it for a purpose in areas where big fishes capable of it are common.

Re: Daiwa SS Air TW

SV Boost is just a brake with different characteristics than before and different braking profile. But I think that Daiwa SS Air might work similarly than SV Boost but it is finesse tuned. Maybe there is some kind of misunderstanding, but I don't consider SV Boost or (Magforce SS) as any kind of "fo...
