cork sealer question

I have never used cork sealer and was wondering if it helps make the rod more grip-able when wet. For years I have tried to get rods with non cork handles because here In the south, after one hot day of fishing, the cork gets dirty and real slippery. I have thrown more than one rod in the lake due t...

Re: Best Finesse spinning rod for under $200?

Maybe this is too far under $200, but I just got a ONE3 Fate Chrome Spinning Rod 7'1" Med Lt and am very impressed. However, this is my first spinning rod for freshwater, although I have used several for inshore fishing. The cosmetics are very nice and it is very sensitive with the 1/8 oz weights I ...

Re: What replaced the Pixy?

Nothing replaced the Pixy, and nothing is replacing the Pixies in my lineup either. The Alphas air is nice, but it does not perform like my Pixillas. The only reel that casts lighter than the Pixy is the 16 Alderbabran BFS XG imo. HEAR HEAR! I agree. For me, it's like a Corvette. The new ones would...

What replaced the Pixy?

Back in the day, I got heavy into finesse for bass. I ended up with around 15 Pixy reels, about 10 for collecting and 5 for use. I finesse fished but also put heavy line on and pitched jigs. Anyway, I retired and fish a different lake now where I almost never finesse. I sold all my NIB Pixy's a few ...

Did you do anything special to catch this beast, like downsize to finesse?
No, was fishing a football jig, which is the go to bait for Pickwick this time of year. Just lucked up :D

new personal best

Well, I haven't been on the boards much in a while, but I caught my personal best bass recently and I just gotta show it. After going on trips to Mexico and Lake Falcon in the past to catch a big'un, I caught this on my home lake of Pickwick, TN. Hair over 10 lbs. I had fished hours with no bites. I...

power drop shotting

I want to try some drop shotting on the TN river and 8 lb line and tiny hook aren't going to get it done. Any of you using larger line, hooks and bait for some power shotting? What size line and hooks are you using?

Re: need input on 7'6" Heavy rods

Took my Tatula 7'6" to the lake yesterday for the first time and absolutely love it. I see now why BPS didn't have them in stock when I went to look at Tatula's in the spring, they must have sold them all. Had I been able to handle one of these, I would have just got them instead of the 7'2" MH. Whe...

Re: Lew's BB2 Pro Wide Spool for swimbaits

it's not exactly the same, but I've been using a BB1 5:1 for bama rigging and it's great. Have a couple I've been using using for a while with a lot of use. Have handled the heavy weight no problem.

Re: Ultimate BFS Reel

Well, I'm late to this party, but I just had to throw in a vote for the original Pixy. If the only criteria is casting very light lures, then it gets my vote easily. Back when I fished light finesse almost exclusively, I would fish the little Strike King elastic floating lizard ( forgot name ) weigh...

Re: Rod for large crankbaits

Not sure if the handle material is an issue, but I have really enjoyed the Cashion crankbait rod I got this year. I got the 10XD rod and liked it so much I got a couple other lengths for smaller cranks. I'm a big fan of non cork grips, so I really like the grip.

Re: need input on 7'6" Heavy rods

The Powell should do you well. I have the 764 Mag Medium Endurance. It is fine for jigs but I bought it and use it for big blades and big topwater. When I hold that Powell or my shorter 714 heavy paddle tail rod it is very clear they have counter weights in the butt of the rod and they do balance o...

Re: need input on 7'6" Heavy rods

I took an out of town friend up to the Bass Pro shop Pyramid and they had the Tatula 7'6" rod, so I got to handle it. I really liked it. It felt really nice and light and with had the right amount of flex I like. If it is near as sensitive as the 7'1" MH, it would be great. I wish there were some Ph...
