Re: GLX 855 JWR Info
I pulled the trigger and bought it today, $270 for a brand new GLX (from an authorized retailer!) was too good to pass up. Will post some thoughts once I've had time to fish it. Might be a while, though; in my mind winter + heavy jigs don't necessarily go together.
Re: Ned Rod
There are magnum Ned heads, as well, I've been fishing a 7/16 oz Nichols JT Magnum Ned Head this winter. Not my first choice, but it's the only way for me to reach some winter fish from shore, particularly because the actual ElaZtech Ned worms weigh so little. (I can cast a tube on a 3/8 oz head jus...

Re: New grease suggestions
Just ordered some ZPI F-0 Gear Grease Medium (been using Shimano grease so far). What's a good high-performance oil to get? Unfortunately TW is out of ZPI F-Zero Reel Oil.
Edit: I found some F-Zero oil on eBay (is that store okay to mention?)

GLX 855 JWR Info
I might be able to get a deal on a GLX 855 JWR, but I'm a bit unsure about the action and sensitivity I should expect. Would appreciate some reference points and answers to any of the questions below. My confusion stems from the lure vs line rating: 1/4-1oz (seems light for a 5 power rod) but 17-25l...

Re: Is it Daiwa, Shimano, or someone else?
Seems to be pretty evenly split between Shimano and Daiwa, so I added a vote for ABU ;) I have reels that I like from a couple manufacturers - I like my Curado 70s and Aldebarran, I love (love love!) my ABU Garcia AL-F, and I'm really happy with my recent discovery of the Plueger Patriarch. (Also go...

Re: Your favorite obscure reels
I recently got a cheap Pflueger Patriarch PAT71LPX and ended up liking it a lot. Pflueger baitcasters are rather obscure to me, but in the lower high-end range (where I think it falls) it's pretty awesome! Light (6.3oz), dual brakes, good spool size (~12/140, I got 100 yards of 40lbs Maxcuatro on it...

Re: Bifflehead Rod
I throw the biffle head a ton, the best rod I've found is a Kistler Z Bone 4mh 7'6". I have the FMJ and it's a little light with a big trailer. Can you elaborate on the FMJ being "a bit light"? Purely looking at the specs, the FMJ looks like it might be the more powerful rod, does that not come thr...

Re: Bifflehead Rod
Added to the list. How comfortable are the Poison rods to hold, especially in cold weather? One thing that has turned me off so far is the carbon handle - I have a couple of Exprides, and that CI4+ reel seat gets stupid cold for me in the morning. Was worried the Adrena's will be even worse since th...

Bifflehead Rod
Looking to fill a hole in my arsenal that can throw heavier jigs and biffleheads in particular. Was considering a Destroyer FMJ for the task and would like some opinions. I think I want a 4-power rod that clearly reads the bottom (to give me info and reaction time to avoid snags) and has enough powe...
Re: Ned Rod
I've been fishing ned rigs on the Megabass Orochi Shakyhead. 2 power rod with plenty of sensitivity to detect bottom composition and bites, but it's specced a bit higher for line and lire weight than many DS rods (5-16lbs, 1/8-1/2oz) so that I feel that works well on heavier line. (Edit: Rereading t...

Opinions on GLX Warranty Submission
Hi, 1st time poster after a recommendation at WesternBass. I'm looking for some advice/experience on how to act on a broken Loomis GLX 843 that I got for Xmas. The tip broke off yesterday on the 2nd time on the water (poor rod never even caught a fish!) while I was putting the bait in the hook keepe...
