Re: Spinning reel size for UL rod

For a true UL spinning setup I cant imagine using anything over a 1000 size. I have a Symetre 500 (idk what model...whatever was new in 2011-12) on my ultra light imx trout/panfish rod with 4lb mono and it is perfection. I would definitely not want a 1000 size on this setup. I have a 2nd setup with ...

Anyone have the E6X 903c yet?

Curious if anyone has gotten enough time in on this rod to give any sort of review on it? Looking for something over 7' that rocks at throwing 3-3.5" swimbaits on 1/4 to 3/8oz leadheads and can double as a light t-rig or senko/ika rod. Currently using 7'2" medium cumara for this but it falls a bit s...

Re: Best Reel to pair with a NRX 893c

I've had a Calais DC on both my NRX 893c rods since I got them at the end of 2010 and it is a match made in heaven. If money grew on trees (and if I actually had enough time to fish to justify the purchase) I would probably buy Metanium XGs to use instead. The weight and size of the Calais DC do not...

Re: Would you spend more on a rod or reel?

Up until late 2010 I would have answered "reel" with confidence. Then I bought a couple NRX rods and everything changed. Whether I slap my Curado 200E7 or Calais 200DC on X rod on any given day will likely have no real impact on how many fish I am going to catch with a given technique. However, choo...

Exsence DC with mono and ideal lure size?

Anyone have experience with fishing the Exsence DC with mono? Does it handle 1/4 oz weight and a small plastic well? Looking for a new reel and I feel like the Exscence DC could be a perfect fit for what I'm looking for, but I am a bit worried about the fact that it sounds like it is designed to be ...

Inshore jerkbait rod...

Not happy with anything I currently have, looking for something 6'8" to 7' that can handle SoCal inshore fish. Will be fished with 1/2 to 5/8 oz baits and 100 to 200 size Shimano with 30lb PowerPro or 12lb mono. Budget is $250 but under $180 is strongly preferred, not really looking to sink too much...

Maintenance for older reel models...

I have a number of reels no longer on Shimano's list of stuff they will service, what are my options to get these reels up and running like they used to (or better)? If it matters, the reels in question are: 2x Chronarch 100A 2x Chronarch 100SF 2x Calcutta 250 4x Sustain 1000FA Most of these still f...

Re: Inexpensive 2 piece 5' rod?

I sort of wish I had just gotten the 2 piece gl3 6010 in the first place instead of the imx 6010, but it seems a bit silly to get another >$200 rod that I will rarely use. At least for bass stuff I can justify buying pretty much anything, but this rod will be getting almost no use compared to like a...

Inexpensive 2 piece 5' rod?

Just looking for a relatively cheap but decent quality 5' ul/m-mf rod to toss in my trunk and leave there. I have the 1 piece loomis 6010 imx and love it but buying the 2 piece that will probably take a beating in my trunk seems excessive. shimano makes a 5'6" 2 piece ul/mf clarus and a 5' 2 piece u...

Re: Any thought of the shimano calais

My thoughts on the Calais are that I wish I had purchased one sooner! Bought 2 200DCs and a 100A when there were a bunch of good holiday discounts around and couldn't be happier, a big and much needed upgrade to my tired old gear.

punch/flip/frog rod all in one?

Should I be looking for something different in rods for these three applications or will something with a decent tip but strong back bone get the job done for all of them? Been slowly upgrading my gear the past year and it's about time I got some new flipping/frog stuff, but I was hoping there was s...
